Wedding Details Revealed

June 16th, 2010 by juannavas

As the Royal Wedding approaches more and more details are coming out. In an interview with Swedish Television on Tuesday the Director of the Information and Press Department at the Royal Court revealed that Crown Princess Victoria will not have any bridesmaids. There will however be ten children acting as page boys and flower girls.

The earlier controversy of the King escorting the Crown Princess down the aisle also seems to have found a solution. According to the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet the King will accompany the Crown Princess half way down the aisle, at which point he will hand the bride over to the groom. The Crown Princess Couple will then continue to the altar together.

Music!

June 15th, 2010 by juannavas

Love Stockholm has so far presented a wide variety of musical performances including Fibes, Oh Fibes!, Alexander Rybak and Carola. The concerts do not end with Love Stockholm though.

The Swedish Parliament is hosting a concert for the Crown Princess Couple on June 18 at Stockholm’s Concert Hall. According to the tabloid Expressen some of the artists expected to perform include opera singer Malena Ernman, singers Peter Jöback and Helen Sjöholm as well as Swedish pop group Roxette. The same paper also reports that Roxette, along with singer Carola, are expected to perform at the Royal Place on June 19, following the wedding banquet.

In 1976 Swedish pop group ABBA performed for King Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia Sommerlath the night before their wedding. Hopes were high among ABBA fans that there would perhaps be a repeat performance of “Dancing Queen” on the occasion of the Crown Princess and Daniel Westling’s wedding, but so far that does not seem likely. You can see the original performance on SVT Play.

Watching the wedding

June 12th, 2010 by juannavas

Many people have contacted me asking me how they can watch the Royal Wedding on June 19 if they do not live in Sweden. I contacted Swedish broadcaster SVT and they told me they will be showing the wedding live online on SVT Play. The broadcast starts at 13:00 CET. The program will also be archived and available online for 30 days.

Many members of the European Broadcasting Union will also be showing highlights from the Royal Wedding, and some will be broadcasting it in its entirety including German ZDF, Danish DR and Norwegian NRK. CNN is accredited to the wedding as well and will most likely be featuring highlights.

Updated: What’s for dessert?

June 9th, 2010 by juannavas

As mentioned in a previous blog entry Stefano Catenacci from Operakällaren (The Opera Cellar) will be the restaurateur for the Crown Princess Couple’s wedding banquet on June 19th. The menu is of course top secret.

Media newspaper Resumé reports though that guests at the private dinner being held at Drottningholm Palace on June 17th will be served Champagne Marshmallows for dessert.* According to Resumé, Stockholm bakery Vettekatten is preparing the treats.

If you want to make your own Champagne Marshmallows you can find a recipe on the link below:

*Please note that Resumé originally reported that the Champagne Marshmallows were going to be served at the wedding banquet on June 19th, but have since corrected that information.
