hmm… maybe the grandfather of the current king made him promise not to reinstate prince sigvard for some reason or other?

marrying just any german when Hitler came into power might just prove to be too much for the royals?

Very interesting story. I am an American and do not quite understand all the ins-and-outs of royalty and the Act of Succession. I saw that the current king married a commoner? Since royalty has to be granted permission by the king to marry a commoner, who did the kind get permission from? Another question I had was, is it looked down upon to marry a commoner outside of Sweden (as the kind married a German lady)? I am just starting to study monarchy’s and I am finding the Royal family of Sweden to be very interesting the more I ready about them!

Nice entry and I am very impressed by the detail you’ve put into it.

I’m not much of a royal watcher, but this story also caught my attention and my curiosity. I think what it comes down to is that the current king doesn’t want to offend the royals who followed the proper protocol. Bertil and Lillian held off their legitimate marriage for years (probably forgoing ever having children as a result –don’t know that for a fact, just presume it.) Since they all did / are doing what they are supposed to why should someone who broke the rules, pissed off the former king and came back crying about it get what he wants/wanted? And it’s a relief that the court of human rights didn’t accept the case since there’s no such thing as a right to be a prince.
