SPOT OF TROUBLE AS STRIPES FALL
The Stripes will be ruing Robbie Grahams penalty miss in the 17th minute as they conceeded three points at home. It was an uncharateristic miss by the captain in a highly entertaining game.
With only five minutes on the clock Andy O’Sullivan was clean through on goal but managed to slice his shot wide of the target. It was a positive start for both sides as they provided the fans to a great game of football. Missed chances in front of goal once again proved to be the homteams downfall, the rest of their play was super to watch, fast flowing passes and pressing forward in on goal.
Ekerö for their part are no dummies and stuck to their game plan as inteneded, contain , pressurise and hit the Stripes on the counter attack. This was exactly how they scored their two goals, which were of worldclass standard. Henrik Bovberg crashed the ball high into the net after the defence failed to clear, Bergquist in goal was helpless as the ball whistled past him into the rigging.
Soon after Ciaran Mc Cormack saw a headed effort canon off the crossbar as his side desperately tried to get back on even terms.
Chris Allen saw his inswinging corner kick cleared off the line as the Stripes stepped it up a gear. Then came a piece of brilliance by the home team Allen cantered down the flank and supplied Graham with the ball, the Irishman with his back facing goal cheekily backheeled the ball past Sandberg in goal, certainly making up for his penalty blunder in the first half.
Ekerö then took a grip of things and started to make their way to goal more frequently, but the Stripes defenders stood firm and soaked up all they could muster, that was until Kristoffer Låås took the ball in midfield and stormed towards goal and let rip with a fantastic shot which ended up in the net thanks to the upright. Långholmen were denied an equaliser in the dying seconds when they had the ball in the net but the referee judged at there was an infringement on the keeper. The large home support didn’t seem to bothered about the result as they had witnessed a great performance by their team. It will have to be a case of taking chances next week as they have a very tough game against one of the favourites for the title Marieberg. Ekerö now move up the league and themselves look like title contenders in what is proving to be a very good league.
