Make-overs !
There seems to be no end to the series of TV shows about make-overs. My favorite is Pimp my Ride, those guys are geniuses, the Michelangelos of car repair and detailing. And of course you have those who make-over houses. Well not really, they usually just gut the whole thing and start over from scratch. That’s more like a do-over; but a transformation nonetheless.
The ones I watch with most fascination are those British make-over programs. I mean they grab at women’s breasts or poke at men’s double chins and love-handles like they were at a fruit stand. Anyway…what always pops into my head is how do these people, who sometimes undergo some serious surgery, function when back in their own worlds? How does it feel three weeks later, when they can’t make themselves look like the experts did? None of this stuff is free and there is often maintenance required, sometimes for the rest of their lives.
I use cosmetics myself and certainly like the way I look when a professional works on my face for TV or a photo-shoot for a magazine. But I will tell you that some of the sexiest most sensual people I ever met had not had close encounters with cosmetics. They didn’t look like Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, Brad Pitt or Denzel Washington if you happen to like those types. A few of them you probably wouldn’t have even noticed if you saw them on the street. But sitting across from them as they radiated total confidence in who they were, exactly as they were, they were as sexy as could be. They had something that can’t be manufactured. They were completely comfortable in their bodies; they loved and accepted themselves as they were. Genuine self-confidence is very, very seductive.
What most of us need is not a make-over as much as we need to make up with ourselves. Time and gravity are the two greatest equalizers. No one escapes them, no matter how much money, power or beauty they may possess. Refuse to succumb to the “blah-blah” of an industry which profits in the billions from our insecurities, no mater how slick it’s message is pitched. Just like the song says: “ it’s all about the money dum, dum, dummy, dum, dum”.
If you choose, by all means use cosmetic products, etc. to enhance you. But they will not make a better you. Only YOU can make a better you. Check out what an expert in selling “products” has to say.
“The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion.
But cosmetics are easier to buy”.
