I thought that the standard was pretty much no working for the first two years while on a UT until you were granted a PUT. Guess I was wrong in my rant. My apologies. . Tim No, you may well be right. I arrived with a PUT so I never had to ask the question.
If somebody has UT based on being sambo to Swedish citizen, then he/she is allowed to work without any restrictions. If the person at migrationsverket said otherwise, well, th

I'm on a UT based on my sambo relationship and I started working 3 days after we landed in the country, had a job lined up before we came. Looking at the people in my SFI class (I'm not sure if ALL of them have the same circumstances as me, but some do) its a mixed bag. A few have jobs, a few are stay at home out of choice (kids) and a bunch of the others are part-timing it till they can find full time jobs. I suspect some of this has to do with achieving the requisite language abilities. I don't think anyone willingly stays unemployed (but I'm kinda a prole like that). |

I am South Asian ( Not from India / Pakistan / Bangladesh)
I came to Sweden in 2008 for employment. I had a PUT granted for this. I came here together with the family. I was eligible to apply for Citizenship in February this year, yet I didn't apply for one more month since During the 5 year stay in Sweden I have been away about 30 days more than the permitted time. ( 6 weeks per year). I applied on the 27th evening online and posted the passport and the printed form on the same day. Since I could track the post I noticed that Migrationsvarket received (or signed for it) at around 4.30pm on 28th. 29th was Good Friday so the chances that someone even opening it at that time is slim. On the 5th of April I got my Citizenship certificate with my passport. The certificate had 3rd of April as the date. Now since Monday 1st of April being a holiday it would have been the 2nd of April that some one opened my application. Therefore it seems that it's taken only one day for them to process my application. This must be a record So yesterday 6th I applied for a Swedish Passport. ( Yes the Police station is open from 9 till 14.00 on Saturdays). They said it'll take about 4-5 working days for me to get the Swedish PP. So if all goes well I should have my Swedish PP by next Friday. Which is about 2 weeks from the day I initiated my application for a Swedish Citizenship. By the way my Swedish Language skills are about 1.2 from a scale of 0 to 10. I felt so embarrassed when I told the lady in the police PP counter that I am a Swedish citizen and I wish to apply for a passport in English I've never been to SFI but I guess now I have a case to go there (if only they accept me there now) |

Five years and no Swedish language skills, that is disgraceful for a Swedish Citizen hehe just kidding guy
Though I often find it amusing when a citizen cannot speak their own language know a few. So you came with a PUT in the good old days when you could get a PUT direct, how lucky! Congrats! |

Just wanted to update. I applied online on April 1st and got my citizenship in the mail today, April 11th! That's lighting FAST! Just a heads-up to anyone else waiting to apply -- I was afraid I wouldn't get to travel in time for next Christmas, but I got it in time for this weekend!! Whoever's doing them now seems to want a clear desk before summer

Question for those married or living with a Swedish citizen , did you submit any other documents during application apart from your passport and resident card ,if you have a card ? i will be applying next month but i have this confusing information on Migrationverket website mentioning about additional documents for "Family member of an EU/EEA citizen " ,I am assuming this is for family members of other EU/EEA citizen that is not Swedish ?
Link below : http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/5706_en.html I am Non-EU citizen ,married to a swede with 2 kids and will be 3 years here next month. I just want to be sure about the require documents before applying to avoid processing delays. Seeing all the recent applicants with fast approval ,hopefully mine will go fast too and approved before the summer holidays ,who knows i might get lucky for fast approval too And secondly ,is it possible to apply like a week before i am due 3 years in Sweden to give them more time for the processing before the summer holidays starts ? because after calculating the days left before the holidays ,i will only have like 2 weeks before the holidays.so only that short time for my file to be open and approve otherwise ,it will extend to August after the holidays. |

EveB, the PDF application is slightly different from the online application. It doesn't ask for some of the irrelevant questions that's on the older paper application. Also, if you do the online one, they'll get it immediately, so can't do it early. I also wouldn't submit the paper one early, as you have to sign and date it. You don't have to attach a digital copy of your passport (online version), although there's that option. Just submit it online, print it out, date and sign. Mail it with your passport and card (if you got one).
I recommend the online version, not the PDF. It's much more straightforward and less confusing. Here's the link: https://www.migrationsverket.se/info/1957.html |

I loved the online application too... I opened it in Google Chrome browser and with one button click got it translated in to English
Had I chosen to apply using the normal paper application I'll be still translating the document Update on the earlier post by me in this thread. I received my Swedish Passport within 4 working days. So in summary from the moment I pressed submit in the online Application for the Swedish Citizenship to the moment I had the Swedish Passport in my hand it took only 13 days. What should also be mentioned here is that this included the Easter weekend as well. So it's supper dupper fast processing. |

Hi,
I have a question regarding the time limits for permanent residence calculations ? If one is nearing the end of his 2nd WP period and has worked for nearly 4 years then when he applies for the next WP then he can apply for the PR ? Or does he have to complete the 4 years first then get a WP then reapply for PR ? This is because it states here http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/6107_en.html certificates of employment from all your employers with information about the periods you have worked in Sweden if you have had a permit to work in Sweden for almost four years and you want to apply for a permanent residence permit. |

You do not apply for permanent residency, it is granted at the discretion of the case officer. What they mean is that if you have had a work permit for almost 4 years, then when applying for an extension include the documentation they request with regards a permanent residency (ie. proof you have been working for the time you were here), and that will help them decide if they will issue a permanent residency or extend the temporary one. |

Yes, exactly as I thought.
Do you know what they mean by the certificate ? Is it the payslips for the last 4 years or the KU10 form for the last 4 years or is it a separate document ? Thanks ! |

QUOTE Do you know what they mean by the certificate ? Is it the payslips for the last 4 years or the KU10 form for the last 4 years or is it a separate document ? It's a poor translation to english when they call it a certificate. It is normal practise in Sweden that when leave a job the employer should give you anställningsintyg. In it's simplest form it includes the details of the company, address etc..., your details, what job you had, from/to, why you left (eg. moving to another company), part-time/full-time, hours that you worked etc... MV want this so that they can see if the conditions of the work permit over the 4 years have been met. ie. Did you change employer when you shouldn't, did you over-stay if you had looong period of unemployment, did you change occupation or not without informing them (if you were restricted) ... that's what they are looking for. If you have a continued employment with the same employer then you can just get one from them. |
