QUOTE Having inmate in my flat What, is your boyfriend a prisoner? You can tell if his front door is constructed from steel bars. |

Quite simply, you need to ask first to avoid this "problem" before it happens.
If you don't, you'll be living there in a state of worry anyway. In most flats this is in no way an issue, but in some special cases such as student flats it may be specified that the flat is for the sole residency of the contract holder. |

according to the contract, we should ask the owner in such a case.
but am really afraid to hear no from him. |

I didn't think they cared how many people who are incarcerated in the apartment. I moved in with my girlfriend into a one room apartment, things were tight but there was no issue with it.

Does the contract specify that only one person is allowed to live there?

its so tricky, actually the number is missing here:
"lägenheten är avsedd för högst" and then it doesn't say anething in the column. "information om inneboende eller motsvarande ska lämnas till hyresvärden på dennes begäran" I dont anderstand it in swedish. |

well if there is no number in the column then you don't have a problem
The second sentence says that you have to inform the landlord about any other occupants at his request. So unless s/he asks, don't bring it up. If s/he does ask, you are not violating the agreement as the maximum occupants is not specified. |

thanks for the clear answer, and I would appreciate if you consider these 3 things as well and gimme your idea.
1) around two weeks before they signed the contract, my boyfriend asked him (just verbally), that he can have a flatmate there or not and he said no, 2) in the website was written that this flat is for one person. 3) this person is working for MKB, and might come to the building to show some other flats to people, and I'm afraid that he sees our names in the mail box. anyhow, you are saying that because it is not mentioned in the contract we wouldn't have any problem? |

I'm not a lawyer and I'm not familiar with any legal implications. I'm just saying that I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. However, I would avoid putting your name on the mailbox. Simply have your mail addressed to yourself, c/o [your sambo's name]. Presumably, his name IS on the mailbox. Your mail should reach you fine.
If it turns out to be a problem, the fact that the max number of occupants was left blank on the contract should cover you long enough to find another place. By that I mean that I think it would take much longer for the landlord to take legal action as I doubt that the website listing is legally binding and the verbal notice is his word against your sambo's word. The contract, on the other hand, has much more weight. Again, this is not legal advice, just the opinion of someone you've never even met. So take it for what it's worth. In general, I recommend taking a "don't ask" approach in Sweden. They have lists of rules for just about everything here and rules are SO important. Especially as I find that when you ask, the answer here is almost always "no". So when there isn't already a rule in place... don't ask! |

"Having inmate in my flat"
Not sure of where you live or the practices of the correctional facilities in your community. As for myself I have only had individuals that were on parole living under my roof, but they were exclusively close friends or family. Still I always slept with one eye open. |
