Hello group,
could someone assist me or has any information whatsoever in finding work in Sweden (can be Norway or Finland too) as a tree planter? I've been searching the net for the past couple of days, but have not uncovered any real information. I'm a beginner and have never planted before, but I would like to try out a season during the summer. I come from the EU. Thanks! |

No contacts sorry! But I hope you realise it is back-breaking work!

Which is the reason why I want to do it. I need a kick in my ass.

it's normally done in spring or autumn, if they don't do it themselves, they'll do it through a contract with same company they sell to. Failing that folk use local contacts, to find someone for extra cash in hand, with weekend or evening work.

Never seen it advertised, best you can hope for is targetting all the timber/ wood companies. There are also a lot of 1man enterprises that specialise in forest services, they'll also Do ground preparation for those that want it... I imagine there is demand or requirement for extra labour. I know a few Swedes who send their Thai wifes off planting, again its local contacts that are finding the cash work.

There was a rag tail bunch up here from one of the Baltic countries (about 10 guys) who called to houses offering forestry services. They would so everything from planting to clearing and mulching etc.. Got a good rep up here and were dirt cheap.

Thinking logically, it might be summer in the proper north, but further south there is a risk of drought, so its normally spring or autumn, not that it would have mattered last summer!

Man, I planted in British Columbia. I cringe at the thought of the size and the scale of the mosquitoes any place in Sweden where tree planting needs to be done. Good luck with this one!

yeah, I can only be motivated to plant my own! It's fairly boring too, but it's work and pays the bills for some, so full credit to those who do it. Modern tools make it less back breaking, but it doesn't stop the critters getting you! Spring is best before they've really got going, but on a still day, they can still sneak up on you!
