Hi folks-
If an apartment renter has a three-month notice period in the rental contract, can he shorten the notice period in the event of changing jobs and having to move to a different city/country? Does Swedish law have a provision for this? Or does he have to pay rent until the three months are up, even if he has moved out for professional relocation? Thanks for the help, I've not been able to find an answer to this specific point on the Internet. |

It will differ from contract to contract however, if yours says three months it is three months. Does not matter the reason. you will owe the money.

Not meaning to sound harsh but it's not the landlord's problem if you're moving out of the country, or even up the street. That's your decision, not his. That being said, if you could find a replacement tenant will to move in straight away, your landlord might be quite happy to do a straight swap. So long as the same money is coming in, I doubt he would care who is paying it.

Makes sense. I know sometimes you can get out of say a gym membership, or an Internet service contract, or a mobile phone contract if you can prove you're leaving the country and can no longer access the services. But in the case of a private landlord, it's not really the same thing. S/he can't be expected to bear the cost and inconvenience of the tenant's decision.
