No you don't need a personal number

You can probably get a samordnings number which gives no residence/benefits but can be used in official contacts

You dont need a PN and you wont ordinarily get a samordnings number. Skatteverket will give you a so called GD nummer as a tax reference when you are registered as a non resident owner so that you pay property tax. Its a meaningless number.

One bit of good advice. A bank account is pretty useful (essential) to pay standing orders concerned with any property you own (commune tax, electricity, insurance) and if at all possible get the estate agent to give you an introduction to a bank to oil the wheels for getting an account. All agents are part of a bank group or will be linked in some way - eg advertising etc. We didnt realise our good fortune at the time, when the estate agent happily fixed us with a bank account and also fixed our insurance and electricity suppliers with linked standing orders. Try doing all that yourself without a PN ! (Possible, but not without difficulties)

I went one better than Johno - the guy I bought the house from worked at the bank. So when we were in his office signing the paperwork he had one of the others running around opening an account and sorting the internet banking.

When we were buying a house, I didn't have a personnummer, and the bank person suggested they put the whole house in my husband's name (who is Swedish), because it would be "easier." We said, No, please, go fix whatever it is that needs fixing, we're getting the house 50/50, and they skulked away and did it the right way. My experience with bank people, sadly, is that the really good people leave quickly and end up in the finance sections of the bank and not in the customer-facing branches.
