Continuing education from home

Alright, so just a quick couple of questions.

I've been living here in Sweden for a number of years now and I am thinking about continuing my education. I'm in my late twenties and originally from Canada. I really don't have a clue as to how the syster works in Sweden.

I don't really know where to start, do I need to have some sort of High school equivalent test? If so how do I go about it?

Basically I am curious about the entire process that I would need to follow in order to be able to eventually obtain some sort of degree from a college or university. If anyone would be kind enough to explain the process it would be much appreciated.
