I'm an American and I've always wanted to come to Stockholm. Now that I'm in Europe, I finally have the chance. I'm coming to Stockholm this Friday through Sunday and my plan is to sight see during the day and go to clubs at night.

My question is, is it possible to go to clubs / non-touristy areas without knowing a single word of Swedish? I've read about Sturecompagiet, Spy Bar, etc. but will I be able to socialize / have a good time / pick up girls knowing only English? I know that Swedes are quite well educated and it's common for them to be multilingual but it would be awkward to go to a scene where everyone was speaking Swedish and I'm the only one there who doesn't.

Thanks.

If you want to walk around town during the day here are some things to visit;

If you want to visit non-touristy areas you will still do fine without any Swedish since most, if not all, Swedes know English. Especially if you are in a major city like Stockholm.

You will also be able to socialize / have a good time / pick up girls knowing only English. No problems. The nightlife in Stockholm is great, the clubs around there will be good;

You should be aware that during this weekend there is a festival at the Stockholm Stadium so that means that the clubs will be packed with alot of happy girls and guys afterwards. You should be out in time to be sure you get in;

As far as the nightlife goes, it is great but a couple of things to keep in mind...

Stockholm popular clubs has notoriously difficult “face control” even when the club is completely empty. I never go to clubs unless I am with a few girls, at a place I go to regularly and security knows me, have bottle service with a group or one of my friends knows a security guard/has us on the guest list because around midnight it is quite a pain. Then again if you have patience in line and you are nice looking it is not impossible. I just want to point that out because a lot of tourists get frustrated with that.

To be honest, it will be hard to get girls interested in a noisy club where you can barely hear each other. Some drunk girls will definitely be available if you can keep their attention. But I think for more fun you should set up a Mötesplatsen advert or something similar on craigslist, expat groups in Stockholm to go out with some people already there. It is much more fun in a group than alone running around Stureplan, trust me.

Check out the bar scene in Söder. It is much more laid back and more people come out to hang out and chill with friends rather than “be seen” and have their pictures taken for Facebook in Östermalm smile.gif

Good luck and happy hunting!
