I need a piece of wood approximately 1 meter x 1 meter in size and do not have the tools to cut it myself. Are there any shops in stockholm, preferably near enskede that would sell and cut the wood for me? Also are there any shops that would do the same in sheet plastic?

Wood is usually sold in pre set pieces. Shops such as K-Rauta do offer a cutting service at a price but you first have to buy the whole plank. If the thickness/ type of wood you want comes in a 150 cm wide X 4 metre length which would be quite normal, you could find it quite expensive. imported hard woods usually come in smaller lengths/widths. Your best bet would be to go to K-rauta or Beijer and see if they have any offcuts that could be trimmed to your size. That would make it a bit cheaper

You could try Bygg Max. I've usually found them to be the cheapest (even if you do sometimes have to search around for a good quality piece)

You can cut stuff to size yourself for free as Bygg Max usually provide a saw on site - but as has been mentioned you must pay for the piece first.

Check out Material, a hobby and supplies store on Folkungatan (on Södermalm) owned by Wirströms, just up the street. They have a wide selection of all kinds of materials, including sheets of wood and plastic.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I need it for a pet guard to stop our pet getting down the stairs. All that is needed is a square of wood or plastic (plastic is usually better, but I thought harder to get hold of) to be cut to an exact size so that it can be wedged or held in place. A thickness of about 4 mm is good. I will check out your suggestions and hopefully one will provide what I want.

You could try a baby shop for a stair guard. They normally have a screw fitting that will fix it in place and will be easier to take away and put back. Unless the pet is a crocodile that would just eat it biggrin.gif

Fredells sell plywood and OSB and will cut to size but it's probably as cheap to buy a saw.

if you don't go with other pre-made "guard" options, then i'd suggest buying some kind of particle board and a saw (they're not expensive and will cut your wood without too much effort)

edit: oops, hadn't seen CTID's post.

bauhaus is another option, and they often have an offcuts bin near their cutting room full of cheap stuff.

Heck, for a 1x1 I'd just keep an eye on your local rubbish room for a few days ... there's sure to be a bit of old furniture turn up that could supply that!

Blocket or similar will be your best option. An old child gate, much easier for you moving in and out.

However, 11mm construction ply about 10kr sqm.
That or just buy some wall cladding boards, normally about 150mm deep & 4-6mm thick various length, build as high as you like, then use two length verically to support it. Cheap small saw, hammer, few nails or screws required.

Electric fence will work too smile.gif

A baby gate should work well I think and easy to open for others who want to use the stairs.

probably cheapest too, just some bare wire, pushed into the nearest socket, shouldn't have any problems ever again. You will have to be careful stepping over it though, could be costly.

OP - I meant 100kr per sqm.

Near Enskede?!

I would hate this company (just a stone throw from Enskede Värdshus) if they could not help you out:
