Ryanair, Gothenburg - Edinburgh

Thanks Ryanair for canceling yet another route

I know this isn't new news, but it's new to me. I just found out yesterday that Ryanair is to cease it's Gothenburg - Edinburgh route this autumn due to a continued dispute with Edinburgh airport over fees. For me, this removed any low cost option for accessing the north east of England. To visit my family at present I fly to Edinburgh then take the train to Newcastle. I could once, fly from Gothenburg to Stansted with Ryanair then Stansted to Newcastle with Easyjet, but Easyjet stopped that a while ago.

I'm really not sure how I can make the trip to Newcastle at an affordable price any more. By the looks of it my best option would be with someone like Lufthansa via mainland Europe.

Has anyone heard if any of the other low cost airlines such as Easyjet or Norwegian are planning to offer a service in place of Ryanair's dropped route.

Why, would they keep a whole route just to fly YOU?

Get off your cloud, buddy.

Did I suggest they keep the route just for me? no, no I didn't. If you bothered to read what I wrote, rather than seeing my name and choosing to troll, you would see that I was providing some information, then asking about what alternatives people know about.

Ryanair are not ceasing these routes, at least, not the Gothenburg one because of low passenger numbers, indeed, the Gothenburg route is always pretty much fully booked. Ryanair use bully tactics to get their own way and to dominate routes and when things don't go the way they want, they leave, regardless of how successful the route is for them. They don't want to pay Edinburgh Airport's fees, the same fees that is, that all other airlines flying there pay. They're doing it to spite the airport, but customers loose out too.

I know it's not GBG...but quick thought is that Norwegian fly to Edinburgh from CPH...not sure if travel between GBG and CPH can be done cheaply but worth checking.

Nooooooooooooooooo! This was my favourite route, my wife and I love to pop over to Edinburgh for a few days every now and again, good prices on the tickets and a beautiful place to wander about that has become our favourite place to visit in the world. Gawd, I wonder how much its going to cost to get there now, a lot more than 600kr return me thinks for 2.

You can fly with Norwegian via Arlanda

GOT-ARN-EDI with a 1-2 hour connecting time around 2,500 SEK return. A bit of a detour but best you can do

Trouble with going this way is that Norwegian only flies direct from Arlanda to Edinburgh between the end of March and the end of October, which means that if I have to go home in the winter I have to travel to Skavsta and fly Ryanair. The cost of getting to Skavsta from Uppsala means that the trip is just as expensive as going from Arlanda with Norwegian, but with the added suckiness of having to fly with Ryanair and having flights that land at 1.30am in the middle of nowhere.

Hi Snood

Your best option is Rygge (Norway) to Manchester. Not ideal but cheaper than the other options!

cheers

..I'd imagine that'd be quite pricey.

Easyjet to Manchester from Copenhagen. Train stations at boths end, plus unlike Ryanair the dep. arr. times aren't ridiculously early, so you can travel before and after your flight.

Hire car wise, you could do Edinburgh in 4.5hrs from Manchester, if you cut across through Biggar from the 74.
