Hello everybody :-) I really hope you can help me with this. Basically my friend is moving to Malmö in 5 weeks and is desperate for a job, the problem is he doesn't speak Swedish or have a trade. The closest he has is a low level folk lift truck license. So can anyone give me any tips that could help him in finding a job, like were to look, so that he has a better chance of staying. I realise it is very difficult to get a job is you do not speak Swedish and do not have a trade to compensate that, so any and all help would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My friend told me to tell you, to tell your friend that they should have enough funds for a year or two, otherwise don't come.

What language(s) does your friend speak?
There was one guy in my SFI class last year who works as a forklift truck driver in a warehouse in Malmö, he only had basic Swedish and he said all the other forklift drivers in his place were pretty much in the same situation. If I remember correctly he was from Macedonia. Your friend will need to do the training and get the Swedish truckkort and try to get some basic Swedish language skills, but there are plenty of openings for forklift truck drivers in Malmö. Once he can communicate with the supervisor and some of the other drivers in some common language it shouldn't be that difficult for him to pick up work if he puts in some effort. |
