Beginner book for learning Swedish

What book would you recommend?

Can anyone recommend a good book for me to familiarise myself with the Swedish language? I am looking for something very basic. Something for pronounciation, as well as touching down on the basic verbs (their endings etc.), their order (subject object verb?) and sentence structure in general.

I just want something that I can use as a rough guide for myself for a little while, so I can hit the ground running (more likely crawling) when I join SFI.

I have experience learning other languages if that helps.

Cheers

I bought a book/cd series titled "På Svenska" and also a book/cd called "Colloquial Swedish". Both those will give you the grounding in language structure you're after. På Svenska is slightly more practical, focusing on daily situations.

These two books have been amazing for me. Turns out one of them was actually provided to me by my SFI tutor, but since I already have/read it, it wasn't necessary and I'd given myself a good head start. smile.gif

I tried a few Berlitz ones as well.. but didn't get on with those. They're okay, but definitely more tourist-orientated and not so concentrated on actual structure and grammar.

I have http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swedish-Verbs-Full.../ref=pd_sim_b_5 also - which I thoroughly recommend, but it's best to get to grips with the first two and try to understand the grammar before you blow your mind with the tenses. biggrin.gif
