Hi all,
A little advice needed. I moved to Sweden in February. I have been contracting for both Swedish and Irish companies through my limited company. I now have decided I want to stay in Sweden and have got my personnummer. Am I required to pay any tax from the previous 6 months to Swedish Tax authorities? |

The answer is very simple: not in Sweden. If you have paid your taxes in Ireland, you should not worry about anything.

Not so easy. Since he moved to Sweden in Feb, he is liable to pay Swedish tax on his income, even if it was paid out by a foreign company and part of the work was performed abroad. Due to double taxation treaties one cannot be taxed twice, but in this case it is unclear how it will be dealt with, i.e. will Swedish tax be reduced due to already paid tax or is it necessary to claim back foreign tax to pay the full Swedish tax. This is a complex issue since it depends on how many days that were spent in Sweden and where and when the work was performed.
The easiest option is of course to just not inform the tax authorities about the early move. Why wake up a sleeping bear... |
