(edit title) Unemployment Benefits in Sweden Who is elegible for it? Options

Hello guys,

My questions is pretty straight forward - who is eligible for unemployment benefits in Sweden? Do EU citizens with all the right documents such as resident permits, personnummers can also get some financial help while searching for work? Is there any special requirements from government before you can be legible for it ?

If you are an EU citizen using the EU right for job seeking then you can come to Sweden looking for a job for a maximum of 6 months. You are not classed as resident, and must leave if you cannot find a job within 6 months. There are no benefits available from Sweden, any unemployment benefit must be claimed from your home Member State, you need to notify them that you are in sweden looking for a job, and to qualify normal rule is that you must register at Arbetsförmedlingen in Sweden as a job seeker and they will inform your local unemployment insurance of your efforts to find a job whilst here.

Swedish benefits are normally only available if you have lived in the country for 12 months or more.

You would have to have joined forsakingskassan, been employed here and payed into fund for at least 12 months. If you are moving here based upon having sufficient funds it means just that, you already have enough money. If you are coming on sambo visa then the answer is the same unless both of you are below the poverty level.

How long you can claim benefits from your own Member State when in another job seeking is dependant upon that Member States rules. Regardless of that, you have the right to stay in Sweden looking for a job for 6 months, and how you fund that is your problem!, if your Member State only pays benefits for 3 months then you have to have own funds for the other 3.

You should also note that if you move between member states the qualification time(s) passed in any unemployment insurance scheme is transferable between States.

If you are a Swedish Citizen then you can look in another EU,EES, Switzerland for about 3 months, which is extendable until no more than 6 months. You need to fill in the application from iaf.se office and sent to them and they send to your home and then that needs to be sent to Arbetsförmedlingen and finally that application is sent to A-Kassa. You need to fill the iaf application 15 days before your journey. You can't just go directly to another country and register as unemployed. Waiting time is atleast 15 days and then you register as unemployed in that particular country. Swedish Arbetsförmedlingen will give a signal to the respective country's (Un)Employment office. You obey to that local employment office rules. Then you will be getting the money from your A-Kassa as usual. You get your country benefits no matter where you live. No one cares if they will be more or less for your satisfactory reasons.

Sweden has a dual system of unemployement benefits

Unemployment insurance/A-kassa - available only to those who have worked over 20 hours for 12 months - for the highest rate you need to join and pay into an insurance fund

Income support/Socialbridrag - for those who have not worked enough for A-kassa - this is a strictly means tested benefit where you can be forced to do voluntary work/education classes - but it is only available to registered residents with the an otherwise very low income

If you are an unemployed EU citizen you can as previous posters have mentioned arrange to transfer your benefits for a limited period to look for work - however you will not get full resident status or benefits
