I'm currently living in Ireland, but we are moving to Sweden early next year. I have a 17 years old daughter, who wants to go to college in Sweden but only speaks the most rudimentary Swedish. Before we moved abroad, my daughter attended ISH in Helsingborg, and in the back of my mind I seem to recall that ISH also teach on college level. Been trying to call them for weeks on end but to no avail, all I get is the answering machine and they obviously won't call us back because we're abroad.
Question I have is as follows: Could my daughter attend college without having to re-learn the lingo? I'd appreciate any help or input on this, guys! |

She will have very little choice as 99% of Bachelor degrees are taught in Swedish and demand the TISUS test or gymnasiet Swedish for entry
http://www.nordiska.su.se/tisus However she could always take a 1 year intensive university course - that will get her to the right level in 2 terms http://www.studyinsweden.se/Learn-Swedish/...rses-in-Sweden/ Or she could attend - Folkhögskolan - often run courses - Folkuniveritet - a private adult education college that runs intensive courses - or if she has not passed high school she couls attend a biligual independent free school or a local adult education college |

how long was the course?
It all depends on what level she has achieved. |

how long was the course? It all depends on what level she has achieved. If she is only 17 having lived abroad for a while it seems unlikely she will have got to the level that Swedes reach first at 19 But on the positive side there is no reason that she should not achieve Uni entrance level by the age of 19 bur attending a high school |

Thanks for your replies, guys. She's only just starting the very last year in Secondary here in Ireland, so she will be eighteen by the time we move to Sweden. I talked to her, and she wants to do an intensive course at Uni, which should put her back on track. I feel so bad; this is largely my fault because I never insisted on speaking both English and Swedish at home! Bad Mommy!

There is a course at Gothenburg university - she needs to look out for the application date in the early part of 2013
http://www.utbildning.gu.se/kurser/amne/?s...nat+modersm%E5l Students take the TISUS test a national test for language skills entry - it can be taken in Sweden or abroad http://www.nordiska.su.se/tisus It will not be a problem as she will finish high school a year earlier than Swedes so will also be 19 when she starts |
