Fish and chips is an unhealthy dish. Period.
You should be happy that you are prevented from eating it in Sweden.

So is alcohol, smoking, eating overly sugary food and so on. Btw, a properly made fish and chips is still healthier than pizza or most Indian takeaways.

Yes, you are right, but ...

One unhealthy option less is actually good for your health.

So I take that you don't drink, smoke, eat små godis, eat sugary baked goods or anything that's not perfectly healthy for you?

As far as I'm concerned, having a nicely made fish and chips (not in Sweden) now and again won't hurt you.

Of course it's not.. As with any food yeah sure, it's unhealthy if you have it all the time. I eat fish and chips here in Sweden about as often as when i was in the UK, that is, about 3 or 4 times a year, one of those times being from a proper chip shop in England when I visit my family.

Actually... after a a little searching to confirm my suspicion, a Mars bar contains more fat than the average portion of fish and chips.

potato... that's not unhealthy, neither is fish.

It's not the ingredients it's rather the fact that it is deep fried.

It's still tasty once in a while but it's hardly haute cuisine.

deep frying isn't de facto unhealthy. you can see that if food is properly deep-fried it actually contains less fat than pan-frying. go figure.

Considering Sweden has more McDonalds to any other per capita in Europe - I cant see it be a valid claim. Especially when you consider the amount of preservatives and other nasties in such fast food processed material.

Nothing of the above except for smoking 2 cigs a day. I have nothing against fish and chips per se but I don't understand people making it a regular Friday dish. And then complainig about AMERICAN junk food taking over... junk food is junk food.

#22 Potatoes and fis are not unhealthy. Potatoes and fish fried to the unhealthy levels... no!

byke, sorry but I don't go there. What's your point? That Fish and chips are better than McDonalds? Is that what your country's cuisine is striving for? To be better than McDonalds?

Sweden is much larger than the UK. In the UK all the fatties hang out in ONE McDonald's in town, whereas in Sweden McDonald's is empty in Kramfors after lunch.
