Grrr..
It seems impossible to find an answer if it's legal or illegal for me gamble online in Sweden. Here I found that Unibet is listed on the Swedish stock market and licensed to offer all sorts of online gambling:http://www.casinoonline.se/recensioner/unibet/ While here I read I'm not allowed to gamble or advertise gambling online: http://www.responsiblegambling.org/article...y_Gainsbury.pdf Can anyone please tell me if there's any risk involved for me when I decide to gamble online in Sweden??? ITS LEGAL because the companies are not based in Sweden. Sweden has a monolopy (not the game) on most things, even though it is illega,l but the state is the state and we all know what they are like

I think that it’s legal in Sweden for online casino gambling. So the bettors from Sweden can make money along with fun of casino gaming through online betting sites on net.

It is legal.
There has been a long running dispute about this between Sweden and the EU, covering both gambling licenses being refused in Sweden, and also with regards the advertising of services. Many court cases and investigations sanctioned by the EU commission As it stands now, Sweden cannot block the EU based sites at-all, nor prevent You from playing any. Those companies just cannot have licenses in Sweden. But that will change, there is now a proposal under discussion that indicates Sweden wants to follow Denmarks lead, and issue licenses for those companies that want gambling license in Sweden, on the basis that they pay a certain %age corporation tax on earnings from Swedish residents (about 20% I think, or maybe even a little lower). The thinking is that they will then block any internet sites that do not pay. Eu commission has several times tried to get Sweden to break the monopoly, but so far, surprisingly to everyone ... they have refused and gone against the EU commission! But the day is drawing closer when that changes. |

As it stands now, Sweden cannot block the EU based sites at-all, nor prevent You from playing any. Those companies just cannot have licenses in Sweden. Sweden cannot block non-EU based gambling sites either. The only thing that is currently blocked is child pornography sites, but it is done voluntarily by the ISPs. There is no law that allows mandatory internet blocking. The proposal you are talking about failed big time so it is not even under consideration anymore. Also, it never suggested blocking foreign sites since that would be political suicide. |
