Swedish children dress up like påskkärringar complete with grandma’s dress, apron and a kerchief tied under the chin, they paint rosy cheeks and freckles on their faces and therefore don’t much resemble the American picture of a witch. A påskkärring also carries a broom, an old-fashioned coffee pot and a basket, and walks around the neighborhood, Halloween-style, giving out drawings in exchange for candy. When this tradition began is hard to tell, it seems it started in western Sweden some time in the beginning of the 1800’s.

WHAT TO BRING :

I have some stuff, but you may want to bring:

1. Make-up: that you are not interested in using anymore (witches must have rosy lipstick cheeks and black crayon pen freckles...
2. Something efficient to remove make-up (I have some remover, bathtub available for those who want a proper clean-up...)
3. Scarf (witches have scarves) and little witch broom if you have one (probably not)
4. Little basket or something, to collect sweets or whatever that comes the kids' way when knocking doors (we won't do all Malmö, as knocking doors is quite a project for little kids, but maybe the nearest block... We may do some other traditional things, like paint eggs (I'll get the tools), or we might want to go to the park - depends on the wheather. I'll organise something easymade to eat.

COST:Free for everyone

HOW TO GET THERE:

The bus 34 stops 500m,the stop isMalmö Högestadsgatan‎

The bus 1 stops just 100m, the stop is Malmö Bågängsvägen‎
