Hey guys,

I know some of you guys doing graphic design or do some sort of work that related to graphic design/artist.
Since im new in sweden, i wanna know how does this business runs in Sweden, which ones are better to begin with?
as a freelancer or do the permanent job? i heard doing freelance you get more money but jobs arent guarantee, but permanent is more like stable work with stable income. Because next week i will get a couple of interview to discuss hows the business work here in sweden and some potential freelance work..and the other 2 will probably offering me a stable job in graphic design mostly in game/apps company ( illustrations works) and one tv commercial / motion graphics stuff.

Also would be nice to know how much is the rates if youre doing freelance in Sweden ( dont really wanna get under rated pays) haha. i heard in Ireland youd get 12.000 euros per project ( my irish mate told me in SFI, he was doing graphic design and looking for one as well)

A permanent job would be more beneficial if a change of permit was required! wink.gif

It sounds like you do not have a lot of experience so a permanent job would be probably better at this point. You would also get to see how the designers work in Sweden, pricing etc and you will always have the chance to become a freelancer later on.

The rates depend totally on the project, your experience and your ability to sell your work.

Hi,

I'm a designer too (architectural illustration mainly at this stage). When you're a new immigrant here, I've noticed that the hardest part is getting your foot in the door. You're better off with a permanent position for the stable income and the experience, but you might end up freelancing at first in order to "prove yourself" and earn a permanent position. Then, a few years down the line, you can probably go completely freelance with the contacts you've made.

I don't know how much experience you have, but as I myself don't have much, I'm prepared to take a pay cut (and a part-time job in something else to help pay the bills) in order to get myself established. I have a couple of freelance projects now; one is paid expenses only, but will give me invaluable experience with the Swedish planning process. The other gets me a foot in the door at a company, and, if I make the most of it, could turn into something permanent and/or result in connections to somewhere more permanent.

Another thing is, I'd get in touch with another graphic designer in Sweden who has operated solo and who might be able to give you advice on the legal aspects, e.g. having a contract and ensuring you don't get ripped off. I approached a freelance designer on spec and she was kind enough to take me under her wing. Don't be afraid to ask - you can be surprised!

Best of luck to you smile.gif

hey, well im a 6 years experienced in the field, mostly did illustrations for fashion/clothing labels, some are packaging and branding identity, the thing is once i finished my studies 6 years back, i open my own company and never looked back, so i deal with clients all the time, but i never had experienced working with peoples.

It gets burned out after doing it for 6 years so im looking for new challenges in different position and i got an offer to do illustration for games/casual games for Smartphones and tablet. They offer me to do freelance first but i wasnt too keen as ive been doing freelance for 6 years, so they ended up agree with full time instead because i know they need my illustration for their games as they want to keep their games in high quality. and they said Sweden doesnt have many good illustrator. or at least in Malmo.

so im getting the job, i will hear from them again within 2 weeks, they gonna sort stuff out with the contracts and the Insteggjob programme from Arbetsformedlingen. As long as full time jobs, im keen on it. ive been to like 5 interviews and still got another one. all they do is they wanna have coffee and see my works and not really hiring or just potential freelance.i can get any freelance job as long as i have my macbook pro and internet.

So im glad im getting this.and actually someone hiring a full time job.
