Hi everyone
I will come to live in Sweden soon and try to find out some information about my living ^^ 1. What I have to pay for to drive a car in Sweden? In the UK, I have to pay for road tax, insurance and MOT. 2. I've heard road tax for diesel car is more expensive than for petrol car, is it correct? 3. In the UK, the insurance is only covered for owner (and any extra drivers on certificate), but I've heard in Sweden the insurance is covered for anyone who drives the car, is it correct? 4. Any advices, if I bring my superbike from UK to Sweden, is it compulsory I have to change plate number and do everything following Sweden rules? I still keep insurance in the UK. Thank you very much. Yes you will need to pay all of these - although the exact details vary slightly QUOTE 2. I've heard road tax for diesel car is more expensive than for petrol car, is it correct? Depends how you calculate - cost per litre or cost per km? Diesel is more expensive per litre than ordinary petrol - yet petrol is more expensive that biofuel QUOTE 3. Yes - in Sweden it is the car that is insured not the individual driver QUOTE 4. Any advices, if I bring my superbike from UK to Sweden, is it compulsory I have to change plate number and do everything following Sweden rules? I still keep insurance in the UK. If you move to Sweden and plan to drive it on the road then you must register and pay Swedish road tax - thy will usually demand valid insurance that offers the same level of cover as Swedish policies - failure to have valid insurance in Sweden means that your case will be transferred to Trafikförsäkringsföreingen who will cover you automatically but then charges you a daily premium - for a superbike this would be aroun 215 kr or £20 PER DAY - so you need to check you have the right insurance You need to check whether your insurance covers you - many only include cover for 90 days - however generally Swedish insurance tends to be cheaper You can deregister - many do during the winter when it gets dangerous |
