Hi there,

I am trying to move to Sweden in July. To be better organised, I was looking at different websites to find out the prices of a good car and to buy a house. to my horror, as quoted in the search: the prices are almost the same. For example; a house on local.se website (selling price) is 410,000 SEK and a car price is 300,100 SEK. This is rediculous as compared to other countries. If I am looking atw rong websites, please suggest a good and authentic website.

Thanks Peter. Import is gonna cost me a lot. All I need to know is, what is a "normal" price of an avergae car? I just cannot figure it out by looking at different posts through search engine.

Where are you thinking of moving to?

410,000kr for a house is not really a realistic price unless you are moving to a remote and rural area of Norrland - that sort of price is either
- a small holiday home cabin - without heating and perhaps without running water
- the price to buy into a coop apartment association - but you will have the monthly fees on top

Yes Dalama, I am moving to Almhult. The houses on average for a signle person are priced as 400,000 - 700,000 SEK.
I hope they don't mean it is the rental price
I don't know Swedish language so all I can do is rely on the number associated with a property. I tried google translator and it did translate it as selling price.

For a similar situation, there are plenty of houses in Detroit for 1k USD, but a (new) car will cost you, say, 20 times that.

The cars have universal value but there are no buyers for the houses. Simple?

Älmhult kommun is reasonably inexpensive for houses and 400000 to 700000sek sounds about right depending on your needs.

Most of the small houses listed at that price have the word "fritidshus" meaning holiday home/ cabin - not all can be lived in all year round. Others are in tiny unpopulated rural villages that are miles from town or indeed anywhere

In the town of Älmhult the price of houses is on average 1,500,000-4,000,000 although you can buy into a cooperative apartment for 500,000-1,000,000

The OP needs to be careful searching as Älmhult and Almhult are clearly different places.

Generally, the more rural and less employment options the lower the price, not counting the holiday stuga factor. Plus, once you factor in year round heating of an un-insulated house, tax, sewage, snow clearance.. etc. that 400k house over 10-15yrs isn't looking so cheap anymore.

Dalama. You are right about the holiday home but I specifically looked at Houses as a seperate category and not Holiday homes.
Even on this website local.se the prices for Almhult (House) avaergae 4 - 5 rooms is 410,000 - 595,000 SEK. Foe example, please check this one out to see if I understood it correctly

I read somewhere (I think it was actually an old thread on here) not to spend over 50,000K on a car, unless you're looking to "show off". Also gave information on the annual running costs associated with a car.
