The first place not to miss is lummelundagrottan which is a cave discovered by a group of boys in the 1940s or 1950s. When i was there last summer, we went to the top most part of gotlan to checkout these cool things called ''rauk'' which are rocks by the sea or in the sea, i felt they were amazing. Then ofcourse the Visby wall which goes round the inner town of visby which was built in like 13th or 14th century. Lastly, somewere called fårösund where you take a ferry to fårö.

I would recommend going south on the island, especially in the summer when Visby, the route north to Fårosund, and the island itself are packed with people.
Down at the southern tip, there are some really unspoiled places around Hamra, and there is a wonderful place further down where you can rent nice log cabins. Particularly good if you have kids and animals, and like swiming and walking. Must say that I found the island is really more for enjoying than siteseeing of any sort. Even the famous garden north of Visby is always packed with people, wanting their drinks and pastries. |
