Hi everyone,
I'm just bit confuse on how things work in sweden. I got my bank card recently and today I went to the bank so I can deposit some money. However, the teller at the bank told me that I cannot bring cash and deposit, instead I have to go to some gas station where I will be able to find some machine and deposit the money. I said sure and I went to the gas station but there is no machine and the people at the gas station have no clue what I'm talking about. Is this normal, is there some other way to desposit cash rather than going to the bank? |

Hey !
Some bank branches in Sweden do not handle cash. Weird I know ! Best way to do it is to go to the bank's website and look up branches where they handle cash transactions. I always do it for Nordea. Also FYI if you deposit money make sure to have a copy of your passport/driver's id card/Swedish ID card etc. Also if you deposit a lot of money then sometimes they ask you to show the source. So I had encashed money with Forex and had to show that receipt to the Nordea bank teller before they could accept it. |

I really don't have a problem with change or progress but a bank branch that won't accept cash ?....has the world gone mad....and then to tell a customer to go to a petrol station to deposit cash ?...what next, need an operation so pop into the bakers LOL!
Must ask my Swedish friend who works in a bank about this.

Interesting - just Googled it and there is plenty to find.
And plenty are unhappy with this with stories like http://www.gp.se/nyheter/ledare/1.1032460-...e-med-kontanter Not that new in the UK either. Banks take cash of all sorts but some building society branches will only handle notes, not coin. I guess I shall have to carry on storing my money under the mattress at home. |

Yup, my mother in law just emptied out her safety deposit box from her bank into our Handelsbanken account, for that reason.
