It's called Google.

Use it sometimes, instead of asking silly questions like "where can i buy bread in Sweden" etc

Quite true - it would save a whole lot of stupid questions on these forums.
There is one big drawback, however.
Whatever you do do not ask for a Google translation if you need something extra special - for legal documents and the like, because much of the time what Google gives you is very much an approximation of a text, and can be highly amusing at times, and at others it will make your hair curl.

The thing is, often when people ask a question, they doesn't just want an answer, they feel lonely and wants to talk with someone. To make a connection. Have a discussion with a human being, even if it's somebody behind a screen somewhere. I don't know how many people have come up to me on the street asking for the time, cigaretts or for directions, with the intention to talk, not just getting an answer that their phone could give them.

If somebody would go "What a stupid question! Google it, why don't you?" when somebody on the street asks for the time or for directions would probably cause an outrage about how rude people in Sweden are.

Why not be tolerant, sometimes people ask stupid questions, especially if you are new to a place, that's life. If you don't want to answer it, just leave it, instead of telling the person how stupid they are and that they should google it instead.

Your post is well intended and understood...but...Knowing the OP and all of us that have answered, you should understand it is sort of an in house joke...and a bit of fun...none of the replies were aimed at a lonely person or a sad one looking for a bit of company.

Your words are well received and please believe we are not being mean...It's just a bit of fun aimed at those that really do not want to help themselves...If they can find TheLocal...is Google, that far away???

Oooooh I tried it!

I typed in "hur kan man" and this is what it said:

tjäna pengar snabbt (get money fast)
bli längre (get taller)
skriva insändare (write letters to the editor)
spara energi (save energy)
bli rik (get rich)
ändra en grund lag (change a law)
skriva en artikel (write an article)
skilja sig (get divorced)
bli svensk medborgare (become a Swedish citizen)
köpa lägenhet (buy an apartment)

It knows much, this Google.

Interestingly I wrote the same question in English and this is what I got:

mend a broken heart
get herpes
get pregnant
get HIV
get chlamydia
order a ladder
get a UTI
get cancer
get pink eye

Well I did warn you. I think that a lot of the Google translations have come from 'The Two Ronnies' shows :-
where one goes into a shop and says :-
"I want fork 'andles"

What did he get?

Four candles.

Well it sounds right no matter how you say it - pretty much anyway. And some of the Google translations work out that way, or even 'better'. There is many a good laugh to be had.
