Hi,
I would like to exchange my EU driver's license for a Swedish one because it will expire in a few moths (and also to have a ID with my personnummer on it). I know that you need to order the form from http://korkortsportalen.se/ but I have a problem because your data needs to be in the Trnsport Styresen database and mine isn't. The reason for this is that we have our car on my sambo's name as she got her personnumer before me... Does anyone know how can I get my data into the transport styresen database? (without having to buy my girlfrieds car Thanks |

Hi,
That is the page I tried before. I get this message: "Tjänsten kan inte utföras. Kontakta Transportstyrelsens kundtjänst för körkortsfrågor om felet kvarstår. " |

I had the same problem - it is because you have never been entered into their system, just call them and they will pull your person number details from Skatte and send the forms out to you. If I remember rightly, the number was on the website and I got through to someone pretty quickly who was fluent in English so no need to worry!

Having seen Mpf's post a while ago saying that if you exchange a E+C1 licence (7,5tonne rigid + trailer) it will come back as a E+C licence (full artic) I have decided to exchange my licence now rather than wait until my present one is close to expiring in 7 years time!
I presume I will need to get a medical done, I asked for the form when I rang today anyway. Does anyone know if I can get the medical done at my local Värdcentralen or do I need to go to a private doctor? |

I was going to do this to get a Swedish license (for convenience) but then I discovered there's a scam with the fees. Everybody pays 150 SEK to get a new Swedish license issued, but EU license holders must pay an additional 600 SEK "inspection fee" to have their existing EU license approved for exchange. This is bullcrap, because an EU license is fully valid in Sweden as it is.
In other EU countries both national and EU license holders pay the same fee to get a new license issued. Anyway, my EU license has another 5 years left on it and Polisen don't have the authority to take it off me if they catch me speeding |

Yes they do, they can take the licence and send it back to the issuing authority as it is no longer valid in Sweden. Plus as you are a Swedish resident you will still get a hefty fine and if you are driving very fast or drunk they can also sling you in jail.
Lewis Hamilton was caught speeding in France, the French cops took his licence from him and sent it back to the DVLA in Swansea. As to the 600kr exchange fee, this goes to the issuing country to verify that the licence is valid and that you have no convictions in your country of origin. |

If I remember correctly you need a form from the tax office which you can get online if you have bank id. No medicals required. |

Thanks Mpf, I needed a medical when renewing my licence the last time I did so in Ireland, there all larger truck and bus categories now require a medical at renewal. In this document it says: QUOTE If your application regards the driver‟s licence qualifications C, CE, D or DE, you must also submit a doctor‟s certificate That is in the section for exchanging a licence from countries outside the EEA but following the usual logic of how requirements are written here I would guess that it applies to all applicants EU or otherwise. Anyway I will play dumb to start with and send in the form without a medical and wait and see how they react. |

Hi,
Thanks for the answers. I contacted the Transport Styresen by email a few days ago and today they have called me that I am now in their system so I can order the form. One thing that confused me is that she said that together with the form I need to submit a original copy of a paper that certifies permanent residence. Which paper it that for EU citizens? I have a paper from the migrationsverket that I got when I registered my right of residence. Do I have to send that or ask for a copy somewhere? Thanks! |

This is another case of Sweden still denying it has joined the EU. If you are an EU citizen and you are living in Sweden then you automaticall have right to "permanent residence". You can send the paper you got form Migrationsverket, the one that says that you are from the EU and have automatic residence rights in Sweden. The paper that tells you what you already know... That they ask for these kinds of documents goes against most EU treaties, but they still seem to get away with it. If you want to annoy them, send them a copy of your EU passport and simply write that you have uppehållsrätt in Sweden. |

You still need to be registered as living in Sweden. Simply telling them that you have the right to reside isn't going to cut it.

That's right, but they are asking somebody with a personnummer and an EU passport for some kind of proof of residence. The personnummer is the proof of residence and the EU passport is gives right of residence. What more do they want?
I did my driving test in the Netherlands as an Irish citizen. I showed them my Dutch social security number (their equivalent of personnummer) and used my EU passport as ID. A Dutch person also showed their Dutch social security number, and used their Dutch passport as ID. Exact same treatment. Only in Sweden would they ask for additional papers from EU citizens. Usually I just send a copy of the Migrationsverket paper. I shouldn't have to though. I do wonder if they even realise what the EU is. |
