To be honest, I don't understand why McDonald's came to become the symbol of unhealthy eating.
Fish and chips, indian/chinese takeaways, pizzas and other stuff could have been that as well. |

byke, sorry but I don't go there. What's your point? That Fish and chips are better than McDonalds? Is that what your country's cuisine is striving for? To be better than McDonalds? Mc Donalds is MEM or mechanically extracted meat which is all the crap which is left over becomes a hamburger. Its still 100% beef. Healthy, i think pure fish is healthier |

To be honest, I don't understand why McDonald's came to become the symbol of unhealthy eating. . Fish and chips, indian/chinese takeaways, pizzas and other stuff could have been that as well. Fish & chips are normally cooked in light vegetable oil at a high temperature so that the oil runs off. the potatoes and fish are healthy natural products that are low in fat. Indian food that is well made is quite healthy. Chinese food if not full of MSG is also healthy - fresh vegitables. McDonald's is 100% death waiting to happen. Watch this video and then wonder where your last Big Mac and Fries is still lurking http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endsc...p;v=fSHaZIOk9nY |

Just because nobody bothered to scrutinize Indian/Chinese take-aways or fish and chips that is sold in the street doesn't mean that those two are healthier foods than McDonald's. |

"Fish & chips are normally cooked in light vegetable oil at a high temperature so that the oil runs off." NORMALLY? Like "IN MOST CASES"? Or do you mean "IDEALLY? |

Until the 70's and the influx of Indians to the UK, fish & chips was the national dish in the UK and there are still gourmet Fish restaurants.
A Fish & Chip shop that makes sub standard food too greasy soon goes out of business because there will be another better one nearby. As for Indian & Chinese food, it is far more healthy than a Big Mac. You do not see many 180 kilo Chinese or Indians, But that is the standard weight for Americans who live on McDonald's crap. Just look at the video and still say that McDonald's is healthy |

But when you add breadcrumbs the fat sticks to it more. BREADCRUMBS? we're talking about real fish and chips here.. not breadcrumbed fish.. real fish and chips is with batter. To be honest, I don't understand why McDonald's came to become the symbol of unhealthy eating. . Fish and chips, indian/chinese takeaways, pizzas and other stuff could have been that as well. Its not just the way in which the food is cooked which helped them gain this reputation. it's the quality of the ingredients too (or thereof). There's also the companies environmental reputation and the size of the company which "helps" with the reputation. #35. "Fish & chips are normally cooked in light vegetable oil at a high temperature so that the oil runs off.". NORMALLY? Like "IN MOST CASES"?. Or do you mean "IDEALLY? I'd say in the majority of cases these days. once upon a time all chip shops used lard or similar. most moved to vegetable oil or hydrogenated oils... and the hydrogenated oils have pretty much gone now too |

I am not saying McDonalds is healthy, I am saying that it's is not more unhealthy than certain other foods. In my experience, fish and chips is always greasy, even if it's cooked in the restaurant. Otherwise it is considered not tasting good. Chinese and Indians are not fat because they still perform a lot of heavy manual labour, If they sit still like the Westerners do all days they would be as fat. Besides, even in the Western worlds there are differences - Scandinavians are normally much slimmer than the Brits, for example. Before I came to London, I have never seen so many fat people gathered in one place, and I have been to America! And it's aaaaaaaall down to that fish and chips diet. |

#38. . Before I came to London, I have never seen so many fat people gathered in one place, and I have been to America! And it's aaaaaaaall down to that fish and chips diet. Obviously you had your eyes closed when you were in the usa. The only reason why people are getting fat is because of fatty food from american influences like pizza, hamburgers and other crap batter soaks up a fair amount of oil. there must be a reason the newspaper is so oily, eller? They stopped using newspaper over 30 years ago |

Sorry, Kingston, but the Brits take prize when it comes to being obese. Also, the choice of food in the supermarkets is very poor compare to the US or even Sweden. Yeah, American influences like pizza Like there is not enough unhealthy British food already. People seem to think that just because some food is home-cooked it is healthy. What a weird point of view. |

How sad you are.
Are you an american it sounds like it. Obviously you have no idea on what you are talking about. Yes supermarkets in the good ol usa are probably better but in Sweden its very sparse. Maybe people in the UK are getting fatter but we dont do as much fat suction as the yanks do and are not so vain as you lot. Home cooking is the best food possible, it cheap, more healthy and tastes better- I dont know how old you are but you act like a 2 year old. I am not here to listen to your crap i only put this topic on for informatrion about fish and chips and not your sick hang ups so piss off |
