Not Indian, chef and owners are from Bangladesh . Food is excellent nonetheless.

For the best Indian, try Happy India on Mariatorget.

There are no proper "Indian" restaurants as such in Stockholm. I have visited almost every restaurant. They are all either Bangladeshi or Pakistani under the umbrella of India. I would say closest are Hurry Curry close to Hotorget Station and one close to Ikea, forgot the name.

My son and I took Mom out to dinner last night at the newly-renovated Indian Garden restaurant on Västgötagatan 18. It's a large place, nicely decorated and offers a choice of either indoor or outdoor dining. It's located right behind Skrapan, near Medborgplatsen on Söder.

The chef, who came out once or twice to see how we were getting on, recently won an award for his cooking and our meals bore testimony to that - we all agreed that it was the best Indian meal that we could recall eating! There is an open kitchen which affords good views of the meals being prepared which is a nice feature. Service was attentive and pleasant.

Just an update ...

Been to Hurry Curry Hortorget, and must say it was pants (nice staff though).
They basically had 1 dish (mutton) and the rest was salad and chicken etc ... basically indian dressed up swedish dishes.
I can't say its an indian restaurant any more ... more so a lunch cafe that does re-decorated swedish dishes.

Above average, friendly staff, fresh taste, a bit unusual actually, probably Goan style ? Definitely worth visiting if in vicinity, othetwise it is a bit too remote and below the quality of Happy India at Mariatorget.

I agree its by no means amazing, but on a stockholm scale its one of the better ones.
Location ... yeah, not the closest. But if you go on a summers night you can take public transport there, and have a nice stroll back into the city along the river.

Maybe we should have people start rating some of these indians?
Out of 100, how many would you give it (on a global scale, not a stockholm scale)

Yep, I am actually very happy I went there since I was on my bike and got the chance to ride around Hammarby Sjöstad. That is such a stunning place to live in, reminds me a bit of London Docklands

Sorry, I cannot do this. Problem is, these restaurants really serve "exported" Indian food, i.e. British curries. I have travelled all over India and it is an entirely different cuisine. I mean, come on, Srimoti has a selection of beef dishes - where in India would they serve you the Holy Cow (outside of Goa) ?

But OK, Srimoti gets a solid above average within Sweden.

I should clarify that Srimoti gets my solid + rating because of very fresh flavours and somewhat unusual surprises, e.g. starter Samosa was sprinkled with Kala Namak which I find daring of them and first time I have had it outside of India. Proper Chapati was also available instead of the usual Naan everyone else serves. Excellent
