You need to order the form "Ansökan om utbyte av utländskt körkort" from this page:

https://etjanster-kk.vv.se/BlankettBestallning.aspx

There is a 600 SEK inspection fee (a racket) that you will have to pay. The information on how to pay should be on the form. Not sure if you also have to send them your current licence in the post, I have never done it, because I refuse to pay the 600 SEK and my licence is valid for another four years.

If they approve the exchange then you can get a new Swedish licence, which will be an additional 150 SEK.

In Ireland a Swedish licence holder would pay the same costs as an Irish licence holder to renew their licence. But here in Sweden they like to deny they are in the EU as much as possible, hence the additional 600 SEK to approve an EU licence that is already valid in Sweden.

You should do it asap because exchanging an expired EU licence is a bureaucratic nightmare no matter what country you are in.

From 1 January 2013 the fee for exchanging a full driving permit issued by a recognised country for an Irish driving licence is €55 Euro. rolleyes.gif

It is possible to exchange a driving licence issued by an EU member state or an EEA member state (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland) for a Irish driving licence. It is also possible to exchange a driving licence issued by certain recognised states for an Irish driving licence.

Which is the same as what Irish licence holders pay.

No, an Irish person can renew their license for 55 Euro. An EU person can exchange their license for 55, then have to pay 55 each time they renew just as an Irish license holder.

In Sweden, for EU to exchange their license it costs 600:- , but after that to renew that Swedish license it is much cheaper. So, once you exchange your license to a Swedish one it is cheaper in Sweden than Ireland even if you are from an EU country ...certainly not a racket. If anything the Irish pay too much wink.gif

Ah yes, I understand now, you are being a pedant as usual!

Seeing as a Swedish licence is fully valid in Ireland, you can drive on it until it is about to expire, and then get a new Irish one that is valid for 10 years. It will cost you exactly the same as it does for an Irish licence holder in Ireland who renews their about to expire Irish licence. And seeing as the Irish Post Office doesn't act like ID nazis, there is no reason to get an Irish licence if you already have a still-valid Swedish one.

If you were paying attention, you'll note that this is what the person who started this thread is trying to do, to renew an about to expire licence. And he/she has to pay 5 times as much as a Swedish licence holder does.

Ah OK... You are saying that Swedes should pay 5x more for their license renewal. rolleyes.gif

No, that Swedes and non-Swede EU people should pay the same. But you knew that.

The Swedish license (for life) is better value. Also you do not need a drivers licence as ID over here. You can get a card from Skatteverket...

No, that Swedes and non-Swede EU people should pay the same. But you knew that.

A Swede would pay the same as another EU citizen if they came to Sweden with a license that was issued outside of Sweden, and had never held a Swedish license.

You are not paying for renewal, you are paying for exchange of license. That administration costs extra.

Once you have a Swedish issued license You pay exactly the same for renewal as a Swedish license holder.

If You go to Ireland as a Swede, it just happens to be the same charge for the fee for exchanging a license and renewing a Irish issued license. wink.gif

That's your warped interpretation. It's actually the same cost for for both Irish and EU to renew, and the exchange is free.

Another 400 SEK. In Ireland you wouldn't need an Irish ID...

It is You that does not understand that the 150:- is for the manufacturing(creating of the actual license, that is seperated from the cost of exchange. In Ireland they are less transparent and do not let you know the actual cost they charge for manufacturing/creating the license, and what cost is the administration for exchange.

So, in Sweden you pay 600:- for the administration + 150:- for the manufacturing = 750:- for exchange, where-as in Ireland a Swede would pay 55 Euro for exchanging the license to an Irish one.

When it comes to renewal in Sweden, not exchange, EU citizens pay the same as Swedish residents.

You cannot renew a Member State license in another Member State, it is exchanged and for that a fee is charged. tongue.gif
