Waiting for their letter Or shall I self-register

wondering

Hi,

I have moved to my new home and bought a tv.

But I have not yet received the Radiotjänst letter. As before I did not have a tv so I did not register. So now that I have I should do so now.

Shall I wait for their letter or shall I self register ?

Also what happens if I do not pay at all ? Will they come in and check ?

I have sent the customer service an email saying that I want to register .

So hopefully they should get back to me and I can pay the fees.

Thanks !

Its not like the UK when that if you do not pay the licence fee you get fined. Im against the fee and do not pay because these days you can watch tv on your computer or telephone and not have to pay for a licence. Also if you watch STV they sometimes say "if you want to watch the deeper interview or rest of the programme go to www. etc". Totally wrong. I know im breaking the law but its the principle

Yes I see your point .

But I have the Telia digital TV and I have only seen the Swedish channels in total 1 hour over the last 3 weeks.

I only got my tv on the 15th of May .

But it is the law and I would like to stay on the safe side .

I got away with it for 5 years before they started sending me reminders, when I ignored those they called me on my mobil to tell me that perhaps I need to register. The fact that I cannot even receive swedish TV did not interest them, as I was using a TV receiver I needed a licence so now I pay them to watch Sky !!! Its in line with the law but I do object a bit.

My tv isnt conected to any Swedish channels, but as said this doesn't matter :-(

When they knock on the door you then get sent a letter with payment information, from what I gether if you dont pay then you get finned.

From what I gather you are quite safe not to pay until they come a knocking, took 7 years for them to catch me ;-)

once you are in the system you are stuffed, you just have to pay and smile

From what i understand there is no fine. Even if they knock on your door just deny it as they do not have the right to enter your home and it is very rare that they have instruments to detect if you have a tv or not. If you buy a tv in your name then you have no chance. I get a mate to to it for me.
Ps i am breaking the law but i refuse to pay for a service that i do not watch

That's an interesting point about buying, do the retailers pass on your details? I am planning ot get a TV soon, purely for use with a media PC. it wont even be connected to an aerial (I know this doesn't matter to them but the point is i will not be using SVT).

If I buy a TV with my UK credit card I guess I can get around having my details passed on?

If you really want to get around then buy it from Amazon and have it delivered to you .

Or something online and so on .

Unfortunately, Amazon will not ship many electronic items internationally.

They will still find you through your delivery address.

I suppose you could pick it up yourself, pay cash, and give a false name and address when they ask you at the store... don't see how they'd track you down then.

Also, every time I have moved and registered my change of address with Skatteverket, the TV tax people send me a bill within a couple of weeks to the new place. Wherein I eventually tell them again that I do not own a TV.

I don't get why people think they can get away with not paying Radiotjänst! Just pay Radiotjänst you cheap gits. I don't watch the SV channels much either, but I still pay and have paid every year since I have had a TV. I don't get why people in Sweden think they can just skip paying Radiotjänst - it's the law! Pay up! And for those of you who "got away with it" for 2, 3, 5, 10 years or whatever, you shouldn't be proud of yourselves - you just transferred the cost to those of us who are honest subscribers. Sorry guys, but this is a pet peeve. What in your opinion, makes it ok to not pay Radiotjänst, if you are one of those people that just refuse?
