hi all, I am planning to move back to Sweden having lived in London for 11 years and I'm struggling to find out if I can use my qualifications from UK universities to find a job within psychology, without going back to University in Sweden and starting from scratch. I have a Bachelor of science in counselling psychology and a Master’s of science in occupational and organisational psychology from the University of Surrey. Though I have never worked within psychology in the UK, I have over 7 years of experience working within sales roles and now work as a sales manager for our European business. I would ideally want to go back to the psychology field once I return to Sweden but not sure where to start. I speak fluent Swedish as well. ANY advice will be much appreciated! Signed- Very lost…

My fiancé's aunt was in the last graduate group from Uppsala University (with masters degrees). Of the class only two found employment. Not trying to discourage you but make sure you have some cash or a back up plan if it takes a little while to find a job.

Scour the market, contacts etc.before making the break.
Making a move to Sweden without employment is both a risky and expensive business.
When I moved here, I had contacted a company, had an interview and been given employment such that when I moved I was secure - other than accommodation, but even that was secured on the day of my arrival.
Too many move here on spec. That is, to say the least, a risky business, and one likely to give repercussions. The more secure you are before moving , the better your prospects will be.
Good luck.

Many thanks for everyone for their response and advice!

when I did some background checking for jobs within psychology it was looking very discouraging and wondered whether I should just stick to sales but this isn't where my heart is.

anyway, thanks again.

Stay in England. Don't make a mistake thinking it would be easy to come back. What we found was that coming here regularly for holidays did little to prepare us for the lack of a lot of things one takes for granted in the UK.

I'd say that the only reason to come back is if one is struggling to find work in the UK or have young kids and you find the environment for them wanting. However, socially it will be a serious downgrade in every respect.

When it comes to work then I found that employers are more than suspicious of work experience from abroad. It took a while to get something. If you have the kind of background you have written about, ie. trained and qualifications in one thing but in practice doing something else entirely professionally then I'd say you be seriously struggling to find anything for a long period of time.

I'd only move back if I were you if there was a signed offer with a start date.

Mistake? Oh my good can´t wait to be back in Sweden and have a proper home, a social life at work with fika and other gatherings, dinners at home, midsummer celebration with family and friends, helpful people, some nature and...passion!! Fake dead emotionless politeness makes me wanna go to Italy just to get the total opposite for a moment. I don´t say Swedish people are like Italians but at least we show some emotions...

Ah, yes! The passionate Swedes, renowned the world over for their warmth, sense of fun, vibrant social lives, abundant inexpensive restaurants and bars, emotional expressiveness, and relaxed approach to the petty rules that encumber less fortunate souls...

Oh indeed! The robotic Swedes, infamous around the planet for their coldness, humourlessness, asocial behavior, few cheap drinking or dining establishments, introvert and stuck up attitude towards others.
