Hello!
Been in Sweden 3 weeks. Got my personnummer and just opened a bank account with Swedbank. Tried to get a monthly mobile broadband (USB) contract but the said I'm not "on the system" yet, which I guess means I've no credit rating. I'm in a temp apartment for 3 months until my new one is ready to move into. Anybody know a good pay as you go USB broadband service? I do more than just "surf" use around 300mb per day as an IT technician. Thanks Mel |

Ok, first thing you need to know is that the whole "4G 80mbts" is total BS. I heard now from the horses mouth that you would be hard pressed to see anything over 20.
I recently moved into a house in the woods, south of Stockholm, and there is a cell tower about 50 meters from my house. We get EXCELLENT reception here on our cellphones and have 4G service. The area is an old development so there are no fiber-optic lines, so if we wanted speeds faster than 3mbts we had to go with a cellular provider (3G, 4G). First I chose Telenor, I liked the fact that they had unlimited data usage on their plans. But we got dismal speeds...during super low traffic times I get a max of 12mbts. On average, it's about 5. So I went and got a Tele2 one instead thinking maybe it would be faster...NOPE...same garbage speeds. For me personally the upload is most important as I'm always uploading video and photo files that are very large to customers. Long story short I ended up going back to Telenor just because of the unlimited data. Tele2 gave us only 10GB or 80GB on the larger plan. I go through 80GB in a week...so wasn't for me. Soooo,...in a nutshell, don't be fooled by the advertised speeds..they are total crap and are only a speed of "how fast it could possibly go"...not "how fast it actually is". Keep an eye on how much data usage you get with it, because if you exceed that, they either throttle your speed (down to 240kbps which is stupid slow), or charge you extra per GB. Last, remember that no matter what you sign, if you're unhappy with it, you can return it and get your contract cancelled and your money back within 14 days. Oh and also, if you go with either carrier, I'd advise you to get the 4G dongle, and then go buy your own router...the routers they give you either suck really bad, OR don't enable you to take your connection with you. I went and bought a NetGear router from NetonNet that I plug the dongle into when I'm at home, and I just unplug it and take it with me to meetings or whatever when I need to. Hope this info helps...I know I wish I knew this stuff before hand. Cheers! |

QUOTE I heard now from the horses mouth that you would be hard pressed to see anything over 20. I regularly get around 26, but never more. This one is good...and so small you can take the whole thing with you... http://www.dustinhome.se/product/501059889...#intcmp=con_con Alternatively of course, you can just use your mobile phone to create a wifi spot and then you don't need to take anything from home at all. |

Would the "3" network provide any differences?

Unfortunately most telephone companies want you to have lived in Sweden for 8 months from the time you were folkbokförd in Sweden. I have seen stories of exceptions for those who have a work contract though but I think it was for Comviq only. |

Having just become a Swedish resident and not being able to sign a contract for the first 8 months, I got a prepaid mobile router from Telia (nifty little thing that looks like an i-phone) which I bought outright for about 1,500 sek. It works well enough, at slowish speeds theoretically up to 10 mbits per second but usually around 5 or 6 (reception where I live is not optimal) and it costs 249sek either per month or per 10Gs, whichever ends first. Since I listen to music when at home that means that the 10Gs get used up in about 1 week, so theoretically this is costing me 1,000sek per month!
From what I read above, Telenor gives unlimited data transfer so it might be better for me. However, do they have a no-contract prepaid arrangement, and if they do, would I be able to go on using the Huawei router I bought at great expense from Telia? |

Using comviq monthly 20G for 279 Kr. Absolutely fine. No subscription. Very happy with it.
