Most likely they will take the car off the road, they certainly wont let you drive any further. They will issue you with a fine and you will only be allowed to use the car once you have made arrangements to have it collected and the tyres changed.
They do this for all road vehicles, it made the news a few years ago in Gothenburg when the veolia took over operation of the majority of the buses and failed to maintain them propperly. There were a few cases where buses we stopped and not allowed to continue. |

As per the regulations, you will have to contribute around 1200 SEK to the government. Thereafter it will be to the policeman's discretion as to whether they will let you continue or not. Source:

interesting list of fines. The Swedish government could massively lower taxes and provide better services such as free healthcare if they just started fining all the swedes 500 SEK each time for failing to use indicators. This would surely mount up to billions of kronor per day.

It's cheaper in the long run just to get new tyres, unless you can justify the fault, like "oh, the bulb must have blown this morning, I'll stop at the next Stat Oil for a new one", you'll get fried. There is no excuse for bald tyres that I can think of, plus it's safer for you and other road users.

yes, but they'll wear quicker, due to being a softer compound.

Snood I agree with you 100% also for tail gating. My friend had nearly bald tyres one burst and he went down a ditch and hit a road sign lamp post, It's not worth your life or others.

We've got these cut rate places where I live where you can get used tires to get you by in a pinch but driving around on bald tires is just asking for trouble.
