After several years of trying to work within the Arbetsförmedlingen system, both my handler and I, have come to the conclusion that going back into the oil field may be my best option. 1 1/2 year as a window washer, and a few months as a dishwasher have not accomplished much for my well being. My spoken Swedish is acceptable, men mit stovning ar absolut skit!
I am 33, able bodied, and do not mind travel or long period of time away from home. I lived in Texas until four years ago. I moved to Sweden with my Swedish wife after the living conditions in Texas did not work for our marriage. I worked in the oil production industry from 1994- 2007. I went to university unenthusiastically form 98-06 with good results when put in the effort to attend class. Sweden does not have a big field of opportunity in oil production, and my business management education with six classes from completion is all but useless. My two year old daughter is what gives me the drive to continue life, and she also assures that Sweden has become my permanent home. I expect to hear any day now from the consulate’s office that my Swedish citizenship is approved. Back in 07' I swore that I would never look at the oil field again, but times are such that I must break my word. I am hoping someone can connect me with someone that is currently working in Norway on an oil platform and lives in Sweden, so that I can start a dialogue about the process of starting work in the oil industry in Norway. |

Would your work in the oil industry transfer over to the mining industry ? Just thinking along the lines of heavy machinery experience.

I had not considered the mining industry to be honest. Although having read your post, I feel very foolish havig not made the connection. At this point I would consider any job that alows me to actually work. If the pay is right for the job nothing is unacceptable. Though I would rather not be an office cleaner or dishwasher type if i can avoid it.

I'm doing a lot of work at the moment up at the Kiruna mines, in a design capacity. I've found it quite amusing that almost every second person I meet going down into the mines is not a native Swede. Quite a few Poles etc with little more than basic Swedish. Also a lot of foreign workers working at the ore processing factory in Luleå.
There are 3 new large mines due to open in the region. 2 are iron ore and one is copper. The first is due to open very shortly. A lot of opportunity for someone with natural resources experience. Having citizenship will be a big help as some areas of the industry are considered to be nationally sensitive. Every bit helps. |
