Sadly, 12 months has passed since arriving and it's time to look into applying for a Swedish drivers licence.
From doing the rounds today, it seems the bigger driving schools - Varnhems Trafikskola and Erikssons - are the only ones who seem to confidently offer lessons and information in English! Can anyone recommend either of these schools? Any others? I was also advised by one of them that I need a Swedish ID kort to be able to apply for permission to drive. The crazy thing that doesn't make sense is that they have allowed me to "legally" drive for 12 months - NOW they ask me to have a certified eye sight test and provide proof of existence purely to practice driving? Strange... Anyone with recent experiences? |

I can't advise on the driving schools in your area, but what they told you is that same as what I was told at my driving school. Regardless of whether or not your current overseas licence is still valid, you need the "leaners permit" certification in order to drive in a driving school car. Which involves completing the health declaration form and the eyesight test. They never explained the reason for the requirement to me, but it was non-negotiable. The only reason I can think of is that it insures the driving school instructors and their vehicles in the event that something should go wrong while you are driving under their supervision.
I think they appreciated the irony that I was able to legally drive to the driving school, be refused permision to drive legally at the driving school (without having first gained the permit from Trafikverket), and then drove legally away from the driving school. I also recall that I had to show something that had both my person number and a photograph of me on the same document. I needed to be able to show that when completing the two compulsary risk training classes at the driving school which would be uploaded into the Trafikverket database. As I already had acquired a Swedish ID card two weeks after arriving into the country, it wasn't a problem. |

They give you a whole year to sort out your paperwork or even get your Swedish license. What's so strange about that? |

I will suggest don't use any school they just fool you, I went to ericsson's traffic school at nobelvagen, Malmö and after 7 classes, it was good on 7th class they had reviewed my driving for final exam and had given really bad review .According to them, I don't know how to drive a manual car, although I have been driving manual car from last 12 years. So I decided to go on my own and passed the test. SO DO NOT BELIEVE THESE GUYS, THEY JUST WANT TO MINT MONEY.
