hi I have moved to Stockholm from Dublin with my Swedish girlfriend. I am a mechanical engineering technician but I have not been able to get a job in 3 months since arriving. I was wondering can EU citizens receive unemployment benefits and what can you do to get this while I continue to search for work. Thanks

What kind of permit if any do You have? Or did You Register You Right to Reside?
If EU Frredom of Movement, then as an unemployed person You can only stay in Sweden 6 months looking for work. To claim unemployment benefit, you have to get that your home country pays, as proof of being a job seeker, You need to go to Arbetsförmedlingen and register as looking for work. |

Hej,
I came here as EU citizen last year to join my Swedish husband and I took my unemployment benefits with me from my country of origin, they can be easily transfered within EU. You country of origin has to give you some standard EU form saying how much you will get and for how long and then you have to go to local Arbetsformedlingen and they will register you and send regular reports to your country of origin. I was told by my agent that time that you are not entitled to receive any money from Swedish social benefits system unless you have worked in Sweden for at least 6 months. Good luck in your job hunt. |
