Isn't this a place where we express our gut feelings first...you know...just say it out loud.

I am surprised and, maybe(?)pleased that the OP did not get blasted for not being able to do what we all do for ourselves...and in fact, I thought it was a Trollish post!

It's taken 70 or so posts before we turned on each other!!!!

Troll...mission achieved, albeit a bit late! laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

When I reached my 20s, I had a hard time maintaining weight. My problem is my work requires me to sit for 8 hours per day. When I get off from work, I want to go and work out but it's easier said than done. I guess I have to find a new job.

I think the key is to enjoy yourself, while not becoming too much of a fatarse. I long ago gave up and being trim, but discovered that by lifting weights often, one can become very large in the muscles department. Now, when people see a person who is a bit fat but also very muscular, the tend to not be as judgmental about it. As a comparison to yourself, I am 5'9 and 235, but have not found that people are disgusted by looking at me (like you see with the fatties with only lard and nothing else).

So, you can find a way to be less disgusting, and can even break someone in two if you ever have to defend yourself :-)

Strength has nothing to do with muscles...you can be very very strong and very skinny, you can also look like a bodybuilder and be a wimp with not much strength...I have done martial arts for many years and the ones that were dangerous were often the small thin ones...

Also, very disrespectful to talk about human beings in such terms " fatties, lard, disgusting"...humans are humans, fat or not, they have feelings, emotions, usually a very big heart and people who talk about them in those hurtful words are not helping, on the contrary!

Personally, a stinking smoker disgusts me a lot more than a big person does, I am also disgusted when I see anorexic looking people, skinny is not pretty even though many think otherwise, I am also disgusted at how humans can treat their own, torturing, beating up, raping etc etc how humans can treat animals, nature, so people, stop being disgusted by the shape and size of others, its really pathetic, actually it is dumb and disgusting, there are far more disgusting things happening in this world actually worth being disgusted about!!!!!!

Strength; is neuro muscular recruitment, plus also the ratio of your fast and slow twitch muscle cells. Then there is limb length to factor in leverage etc. The fit 170, will always out pace the 230lb'er!

Thoughts; think of old relatives, or images of those who lived to be a 100 plus years... None were fat, big bones, excessively muscular, had hormone or thyroid problems to blame for their size?

Umm, unfortunately you are wrong, strength has everything to do with muscles, though it is also true that many times very strong people are not very cut--look at the world's strongest men. You will never meet very strong people that have small muscles, sorry.

Being a tough guy is another matter entirely, though of course being stronger always helps there as well. Martial arts, boxing, wrestling, etc. can all help in that department.

I will call fatties whatever I want, and could care less if you don't like it, because I am rotund as well. I do agree about cigarette smoke, however.

There is nothing wrong with people talking honestly about appearances; the whole world could go for a bit more openness in how we see things, including when we waddle around like walruses.

Hey!

I Haven't read everything in this thread so I do apologise if I am giving you advice you have already been given.

Basically, I used to be 11 and a half stone, 5ft8 and I am now 9 stone and 11 pounds (53 kg I think?) newho, I lost that over time by cutting the sugar and increasing the fibre in my diet.

I am a desk worker, my job involves computers, so I don't move about that much. I have started running which is great for my legs. But I lost nearly all of my weight simply cutting out the sugar- for some reason my body just can't tolerate it, I just pile on the pounds when I have anything sugary! (Not fair! *cries*)

Everyone is different so it might not work for you, but maybe try cutting out sugary stuff like pepsi and sugar in tea and maybe replace any white breads with rye breads. Seemed to work for me smile.gif I eat more uncooked vegetables now too (they taste better raw to me) ... Simple advice but it worked for me!

This was a fun thread, so I'll add my take on it.

First, your body is wired to deal with things as they are where you are. It's not particularly healthy to consume large amounts of fruits while living in a sun-less Northern hemisphere. The body metabolism gets thrashed by it.

Secondly, while I agree with most that was said in this thread about sugar and probably carbohydrates as a whole, please not that it doesn't work for everyone the same...

...because, thirdly, the most important issue most people have is that they have consumed way too much anti-biotics in a life time, thus killing off a healthy bacterial balance in their intestines.

That is where you should be looking for clues if it is the case that you consume very little, do normal excercise and find that you are not losing weight.

Note that there is no point to consume "good bacteria laced dairy products", because they don't do anything for you. Bacteria that comes in the natural entry point have no chance whatsoever to establish a colony.

No. The real only known antidote for this, is to buy a ticket to the Amazon, find some healthy specimen of a real native Indian and ask him to take a dump, that the shit and filter it through a saline solution and then take it and shove it up your arse.

Then you will get back to the real bacterial balance that mankind nurtured for a million years.

Now, if you think I have forgotten to take my happy pills, feel free to read up on it on Der Spiegel.

It's probably going to be a couple of years more and then you will all be scrambling to get some Indian shit up yours truly.

Clinical trials they are already making is proving that this debate about bacteria in the intestines is where the real issue is all about. Because obese people who get the "real shit" lose weight.

Be very sceptical about giving yourself and definitely your kids antibiotics. Unless it is really a life and death situation, avoid it like the plague.

What about all the fruit that grows naturally and best in our temperate northern or southern hemisphere.

Also, didn't we just (in real terms) just roll out of Africa and genetic adaption is quite slow, so our bodies are probably still suited to all fruit, if there was any truth in your claim.

Antibiotics having a down side I'll certainly agree on, however if you body lacks the necessary enzymes to breakdown food, that would mean you absorb less fat? Not more etc and so you wouldn't gain weight? That's why no so long ago there was talk of adding certain fats that the body can't breakdown into food products, that won't cause a weight increase.

Yes but it is very seasonal. When you are nearer the equator sun exposure means that the body is able to replenish some items it is not so easy to do here up north.

There are some good links about the theory on how bacteria is essential for our metabolism. Over the bacterial biome in our body weighs more than our brain.

I'll try to be short on such a big topic. The intestines is a very oxygen free environment. When you eat something it is not just your body functions such as enzymes that is involved in processing and extracting stuff from it. Bacteria also come into it. If you eat a lot of carbohydrates the bacteria will reprocess it as sugars. But because there is no oxygen available the bacteria cant actually use the sugar and instead the body picks it up. Bacteria can signal their preference to your brain.

So if you have a craving for carbohydrates or sugar stuff it might be because bacteria in your body is telling your brain what it wants. The more you get sucked into that the more craving. So, you are actually just running around trying to keep the bacteria in your body happy.

Antibiotics come into this because ever time you use it you deplete the variety of bacteria that you have and those that survives get the upper hand.

If you have a lot of gas in your body then you are probably eating way too much carbohydrates.

Protein is usually not something the bacteria can do much with and so is handled by the body itself (as far as I understand).
