When to prune a plum tree in Sweden?

In June, autumn or later?

We planted a plum tree last autumn and it's looking great so far. But we're having a hard time trying to figure out when to prune the thing! Some sites online say June, when the plum is growing so the sap will push out and help reduce silverleaf growth. Some sites say in the winter, when it's dormant. Some sites say in July, August, and September.

I'm confused. Anyone in the know and can help out a fellow plum tree grower? I'm in Östergötland.

Tack så mycket!

personally, autumn, when sap is falling or fallen. But generally now or spring is the worst time to do it to any fruit tree / bush.

I don't now anything about what you are asking...but do you have people close to you that you could ask?

Sometimes neighbors can be a wealth of information.

Depends on where you live

Around here most people prune in May/June as you never know in the autumn whether you will be plunged into minus 10C and snow

Think that is bad, try having your prunes plumbed!

To late to prune now as they will already have blossom. I had my prunes in the autumn. Normally you need to prune every 2 years. If it is still a small younyou may not need to prune for another year or 2. They do tend to throw high shoots up that will need a high ladder to get fruit from later as well as making it difficult to prune later so cutting them down early could be good at whatever time of year. just remember to cut at an angle so that you do not end up with cut ends upwards that can get frost and fungus into.
