We too are in the same predicament, not so much that it has to be English ... but more so that there is allot of really dirty and run down pre schools in central stockholm (especially vasastan). If you want an all english preschool, then you could go super private via SIS (intsch.se) they do preschools but are very pricey. otherwise, you have mothergoose in ostermalm that is dual lingo ... some place up by the back of ESN that seemed ok and another all english just on the bridge between skanstull and gullmarsplan.

I would not recommend the Mother Goose preschool mentioned in Bykes post above at the moment as the place appears to be in turmoil at the moment and is in danger of being closed down by Stockholm City council for offering poor care standards
- it was mentioned in an article in the newspaper SvD about poor quality pre-schools in danger of having it's licence withdrawn - on some other message boards current parents are very unhappy about staff turnover which very poor pay and conditions has seen the good and experienced staff leave and unqualified staff put in their place and former staff have revealed that children have been locked in small rooms with the lights turned off as punishments or tied to chair There was some sort of crisis meeting in january and the place in "special measures" whereby it must improve or be closed |

Yeah , Puffins right .. the mothergoose has been plagued with bad reports for a good 2 years +.
I only listed it because it was central and english ... but not good. Our child should have gone to dagis a long time ago, but like I said ... we havent found any pre schools in central 08 that we thought were ok and cant afford the SIS pre school. |

There's a bilingual (English/Swedish) pre-school for 1-5 year olds at Katrinebergsbacken, Liljeholmen.
Vittra Katrineberg http://www.vittra.se/english/Schools/Stock...atrineberg.aspx They also have international pre-schools at Telefonplan, Luma Park, Sickla Udde, Lidingö and Sollentuna. Although one condition is the child needs a swedish personal number to accepted. |

I really wonder where people get thier information from??? and then again what kind of parents actually believe that what has been mentioned above actually occurs??!!
Mothergoose International Pre-schools have very good teachers who believe in what they are doing and have very good educational backgrounds. One day it would be nice to work in a Pre-school be it swedish or english and not have to deal with parents who have nothing better to do than create hysteria and make the lives of Pre-school teachers, who only want to work with children because they enjoy it, quite unbearable and rather too stressful. It is this matter that parents must consider when wondering why there seems to be such high turnover rates within Pre-Schools, not just Mothergoose and why there is a continual lack of Pre-School teachers!!!! If you really want to find a good Pre-School for your child you must actually set foot in the Pre-School and not take word of mouth as the bible because honestly there seems to be a lot of people with too much time and very little knowledge. |

Wow .... Old thread rebumped. In regards to mother goose, I think you will find there have been many articles in the press about its short cummings along with numerous unhappy parents who have commented on here over the years.
As a person who classes themselves as a teacher, I am wondering if your actual issues lay with the parents or offset of responsibility passed down from the management. Further more as an employee I can't see how any parent can be blamed for being unhappy for the level of service their child receives. What you seem to not grasp is you are looking after the most important thing in the world for these parents .... Their kids. I sure as shit wouldn't put my kids in a place like mother goose if I experienced anything like what has been discussed by other parents on here, let alone if any representative of such place came on here to try and clear the record and pass blame onto the parents. Especially based on all the hard evidence through inspections. |

Hmmm is this one of the Mother Goose owners or managers online tonight?
There has been lots of critcism from parents and from staff - although until around 2009 the feedback was generally positive In fact I have never ever heard of company like this where intially positive parents -actually singing the place's priases can't wait to get thir kids out a few months later and find that management won't even speak with them to discuss their concerns - again this is not normal It is always a mistake for owners to ignore the concerns of parents - but I have read dozens of critical opinions about this place in the past couple of years from different sources - not just a few troublemakers - many of the expats websites have tales of woe about MG from the hiring on so many unqualified staff (there have been posters here with zero childcare experience that have had MG job offers, to turnover as so many get fired when the 6month probation is up, to former staff members who did not agree with some of the "discipline" methods used - including toddlers being tied to high chairs and shut in dark cupboards Some of the inspection reports that are available online make it clear why there is disatisfaction - low levels of qualified staff 13% of staff have pre-school qualifications - only 1 fully qualified pre-school teacher for 44 children - EXTREME low staff ratios - one of the inspected groups had 8 two-year olds with 1 unqualified member of staff - a worksheep mentality where the children spend most time indoors training worksheets that the staff hand out -creative play not freely available but occured only when timetabled - few trips and visits -few opportunities for free play as activities steered by adults acording to ready-made packages and programmes bought by the nursery but not adapted to the children's needs - poor support for learning Swedish as most staff cannot speak the lanaguage - poor mathematical development and a lack of toys for children to develop numeracy through play - no routines for supporting children with special needs as required by law - the nursery argued that its target group of parents were those in Sweden on temporary contracts - not for children that will live and attend school in Sweden ... of course once it was mentioned in the national press that the regulatory agency had withdrawn its licence for the second time in 2 years ... a record given that only a couple lose licences each year http://arkiv.mitti.se:4711/2011/8/solna/MI...222-A-005-A.pdf http://arkiv.mitti.se:4711/2011/26/sundbyb...628-A-006-A.pdf http://www.svd.se/nyheter/inrikes/fler-for...kas_5867351.svd |

My son attended Mothergoose sometime back and I would second every negative comment given in this thread. He suffered a terrible accident in the school due to the negligence of the under trained teachers. My wife was so angry and she in fact wrote a question in this forum (in Local) asking for help for contact details of any authority that we can report the matter. She did not mention the name of the school in her post.
The very next day the principal called her and asked her to take her post out of the forum in Local. When my wife said that she has not mentioned the name of the school she was told that even though she has not mentioned the name she has given the name of the area the school is situated and that would give a bad impression to the school since Mothergoose was the only International preschool in the area. Luckily within few days of this incident my son got a place at another international school and we moved him out of Mothergoose ASAP. Having said that I would say that Mothergoose used to be a very good school but I think they got bit greedy with the demand for the international schools in Stockholm and they got it all wrong when they started their expansion. |

Hello
even though this post is very old and the original poster has most likely solved his or her problem I feel that I should probably add a word of caution along the same lines as others here have. My role in this isn't as a parent or prospective customer but rather as a temporary worker going around covering up sick leaves at schools and pre-schools while completing my teaching degree. Since the non-disclosure laws are very, very strict for people working in childcare I can not write much, but I still feel I need to say something. A lot of children who are vulnerable due to moving around and having parents who are not quite aware of the rather cumbersome system of getting places in schools and daycare are victimized by these predatory "free school" type company run pre-schools and schools. Cibenon/Futura are among the worst with their viral marketing. http://www.futuraskolansforaldrar.com/ is a site made by parents of one of their first schools. As mentioned I can't go into detail of any sort because it would be illegal to do so, but I strongly recommend avoiding this particular company like the plague. |
