Hej,
I've just moved to Gothenburg for work and already feeling lonely! I'm from India and spent the last year in London where I used to play a lot of Badminton and Pool. I'm looking for anybody who would like to play badminton or pool. If you do not play any of the above, you're still most welcome to contact me. In fact I'm looking for an existing group(I don't mind starting one!) where I can meet people, socialize and explore the city. If any of you know about any such groups in Gothenburg then please let me know guys. Cheers |

Hi,
Having lived out of town for some 30 years now, I can't say much about pool (there was once a pool hall in what is now Nordstan, but whether it is still there know not) or badminton, (but here is a site info@fjaderborgen.se but might prove expensive) but regarding discovering the city, then the best way is Shank's pony around the central areas, in other words your own two feet. And for sights and outlook points, you have Guldheden Water Tower, Keiller's Park (on Hisingen) and Masthuggs Church. Get a free street map and then wander round and discover the city and its many places of interest. That was how I did it back in 1960, and alone. I found it the best way to get to know what was to be my new home for many years prior to moving into the country. Then, if you get tired of walking, treat yourself to an all-day pass of the tramway system, and just go from end station to end station on each of the routes, I believe that there are one to six or seven, and they all seem to spread out from Brunnsparken in the centre of town. That way you will also get to know a little of the suburban areas. Closer to Christmas, just walking round in the city centre will be something of an eye-opener I think you will appreciate. It was for me back then, as it was a completely new experience and one that I remember even today. Good luck, and I hope that this will be of help and that you learn to like Gbg, and feel at home there for as long as you will be staying. From an Ancient Brit who has made his home in Sweden. |

Thanks Hisingen for your comments.
Well I like to explore things on my own and tried the same while I was in London. Then I found some friends and discovered that it's more fun when you explore the city with them. BTW, I'm more interested in some kinda activity like playin' badminton or pool here. From your comments I could sense that the pool scene is not so great here! Also, I'd visited fjaderborgen and left a note on their noticeboard for people who are interested to play, still no response though! Cheers |

Most sport centers have continuous running amateur tournaments which you can sign up for. You will then start in the lowest division and will meet many players of all skill levels.

Hi,
Not sure about Badminton but a few of us (from an expats group on facebook) went to play pool other week, nothing serious just a few beers and a few games. It was a good night so will probably be happening again soon. We ended up playing at Henriksberg, 10kr a game as some places tend to charge 70kr per hour... If your still up for a game give me a shout! |
