It is the law and it explicitly says so here: http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/160_en.html
"Requirements to be granted a work permit To be granted a permit requires that: * you have a valid passport * you can earn your own living on the job you have been offered * you work to such an extent that your wage is at least SEK 13,000 per month before tax. In addition your employer must: * have advertised the post in Sweden and the EU for at least ten days (for new recruitment) * offer terms of employment that are equal to those of a Swedish collective agreement or what is customary within the profession or sector * give the relevant union organisations the opportunity to express an opinion on the terms of employment in the job offer." |

I went to migrationsverket today with my prospective employer and filed the paperwork. They only needed a copy of my passport but also provided a copy of my college diploma for good measure.
I'm beginning to get a sense of how much of a runaround it can be to use government services here though: After going to Boras to file initially, they gave us the necessary forms to fill out but we were told to go to Goteborg where they handle these matters. When we went there today, they "started" the process and entered me into the "system", but need to send the papers down to Malmo because they handle these papers. She didn't seem to know much about the specific exception we were using for application, so it helped a ton to have gotten the papers from Boras beforehand, since I'm not sure if she would have known what to do if we didn't already have the proper documents . Such a relief to finally do something, let's just wait and see if the 10-day processing time listed on the migrationsverket website is for real....I hope so |
