It's quite interesting and somewhat ironic to see Reinfeldt criticising David Cameron's speech on social tourism when Sweden's system is one of the hardest in the EU countries to get into, even for an EU member.

Reinfeldt doesn't live in the UK. Were he to do so I am sure he would have a different point of view. But that said, there isn't a politician in this world who lives at a normal level, and sees things the normal folk see. They are all in their little ivory towers, well-shielded from what we might call every day life. That apples to all countries - well most at least.
But at last Cameron seems to have heard whiaspeers about what the people are saying, and of course - there is an election coming up in the not too distant future! ! He doesn't want to lose out to the Cloggs, the Milibands or the UKIP's of this world. Regarding the movement of people withing the EU, there does seem to be an exceedingly high number of Romanians who are using the the UK as a ground for criminality, plus the odd Latvian and Bulgarian. These people - some in gangs - appear to have entered the UK simply in order to commit crime. Now if they were to come to Sweden instead . . ... |

Sweden's system isn't that difficult to get into once you understand the disconnection between public bodies and the current restrictions on sharing of information, and willingness to change that. Almost everything that Cameron has proposed is already implemented in many EU Member States, including Sweden. eg. Requirement for medical insurance. The basic fact is that what they are complaining about is something that could have been prevented if they had read carefully the EU Directives they were signing up for and compared that to the existing UK legislation with regards access to benefits, medical care etc... The fact that they cannot recharge through the fully functioning reimbursement system for medical care has nothing to do with the Freedom of Movement and more to do with the fact that the hospitals ignore the requirement for taking details, checking EHIC cards etc... The only real difference between UK and Sweden in Camerons proposal is the doubling of fines to employers taking illegals, even Sweden is discussing implementing measures for fining employers in such situations, and the rather interesting new fines proposed for landlords renting to illegals? I suspect the border police will be busy doing raids on accomodation as well as employers in the future! ...and even more interesting is that there is no woosy cries of Racial Profiling by the Border Police! |

The UK Government is not fit for purpose and that includes the various civil service organisations, such as the Inland Revenue, Child Support Agency, Food Standards Agency, Financial Services Agency, UK Border Agency who have all been found to be asleep at the wheel. They have the rules/laws, but either ignore them and/or don't enforce them and more disturbingly probably don't understand fully the area they are supposed to be the experts in. Combine that with cutbacks and you have a calamity.
The politicians tend to ignore genuine concerns and employ a mass of consultants when in fact the people on the ground are one of the best sources for failings/improvements and more importantly accepting the changes, which determines whether a project is successful or not. Another issue are changes made by successive Governments. It seems change is introduced for the sake of it. They seem so detached from the real world, that they don't realise the harm they're doing and more likely making judgements based on a mass of spreadsheets and legal reports that no-one really reads and understands. But the biggest thing that is missing today is RESPONSIBILITY. No-one seems to have that anymore. Something goes wrong and they go somewhere else with a payoff and denials and land another well paid job and so the cycle continues. |

Apart from your single rant against the government of the UK, Mib, what have you to comment on the Reinfeldt-Cameron argument?
Anything constructive or are you simply against anything and everything?????????? |
