Hi all,
I was wondering if I could get some help on paying tax whilst living in Sweden. I'm relocating to Stockholm with my girlfriend in July as she has taken a position there with her current employer. I would like to continue to work for my UK employer but I wanted to know a little more about how I would pay tax if this was the case. The company I work for are small and don't have a Swedish office, so I would be working remotely, full or part time, for a couple of years without much travel back to the UK. Would my employer pay my taxed wage into a UK bank account, and then I offset that tax against Swedish tax? Or would they pay my wage tax free into a Swedish account for me to retrospectively pay the Swedish tax? My company are small and I want to do the research myself so that I know what I'm talking about. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Oliver |

Better answer you can get from skatteverket.se search site or email them or visit their office.

Assuming you're asking how to "do the right thing" and assuming you intend to register as a resident here in Sweden, this is how I understand it... you pay your UK income tax and get paid into a UK bank account as normal... at the end of the year you should declare your earnings and UK taxes to Skatterverker here. They will ask you for the difference between your UK tax and what you would have paid were it a Swedish employment. I don't know if national insurance is included in the offset though, and I'm pretty sure council tax is not. I've never done it myself. Best to check the details with Skatterverket!
Of course as a British citizen, you're entitled to stay with her here as a registered UK tax payer, but there are all sorts of technicalities with HMRC about being in the UK for x days a year, etc. |

Thanks Mart123.
I absolutely intend on doing 'the right thing'. I will register in Sweden as a resident and will for all intended purposes be one. Could I ask that if I do get paid into a UK bank account from my UK employer, how do I access the funds without having to incur costs every time I withdraw money from my account? |

You should only pay Swedish tax/payroll tax/NI since you are resident in Sweden and performing work in Sweden.
It does not matter where the company is located. |
