British TV has been getting a lot better recently

For those with dishes or VPN's

Interesting thread! I enjoy watching British telly on Hulu (in America). If I were to move to Sweden, I understand I'd need VPN for Hulu.

BUt would VPN work for BBC? You see, in America, we don't pay a TV license fee/tax so there's no need to register with the TV "authority" and thus don't need an access code/number. So I wonder if the situation would be more complicated when using VPN to get BBC iPlayer working.

Simply put, would it not work because I'm not a British citizen that doesn't have some kind of access key/personal number?

Watching with Expat Shield and filmon.

Two great series. Both on Monday nights. "Blackout" and "Line of Duty". Use the Iplayer and catchup on the earlier episodes. Blackout on part 2 tonight, Line of Duty on part 3.

Over Course: smile.gif
If you use Expat Shield you might want to update your hosts file with the pop ups that start in the background. They are very annoying because many of them they play sound by default. These are the ones I have trapped so far. If you don't know about your Hosts file and don't know what I am talking about then leave it...

Add these lines if you know what you are doing. Note that these sites will not be available.

A VPN gives a computer a cloak to hide their location. So if a user uses say a UK based VPN - then its close to impossible for channels like BBC to find out if your not in the UK. (so yes it does work)

In regards to law, I can't see how any UK law would be applicable to Sweden.
Especially since their is a EU wide law specifically phohibeting the blocking of broadcasts within the EU.

Now here is a channel I have never really bothered to watch ... BBC ALBA.
But tonight they are showing The Proclaimers playing live LOL.

QUOTE
Viewers in the UK can catch the last 60 minutes of The Proclaimers set at the Hebridean Festival in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, on Friday 13th July, live on BBC Alba from 21.45 to 23.45pm. (EDIT : UK TIME)

BBC Alba is the Gaelic digital channel broadcast throughout the UK on satellite, online, Freeview and Virgin Media. The broadcast is repeated on BBC Alba at 21.55 on Sunday 15th July.

BBC Alba can be viewed on Freeview channel 8, Virgin Media channel 188, Sky channel 168, Freesat channel 110 and Live on BBC iPlayer.

That means anyone with a UK Based VPN should be able to see it by going here, when it starts :

LIVE : http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/bbc_alba/watchlive
CATCHUP : http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01kn...ival_2012_2012/

With these referral links, do you get something per click? Or do you get only if I click and become paying customer? What do you get exactly - e.g. how many free VPN days per click?

The link is to a VPN, that myself and quite a few others I know have been using for almost 3 years without any real problems. Normally most VPN's can go up and down to due to network congestion and subscribers numbers, whereas this one doesn't seem to. What the link primarily does is create a group for those who are based in Sweden and allows VPN's and Smart DNS with a focus on UK channels (A collective security of service if you will). I don't receive any financial reward for anyone who clicks on the link. Especially since the link itself was not originally setup by me.

Thanks to all for the great tech advice. I'll be checking out ExpatShield for sure.

And will compare it to HideMyAss's VPN product.

Did anyone catch any of the new Alan Partridge? He is over on sky now but still has great as ever. If you like him that is, definitely an aquired sense of humour.
