Hej All!
I just wonder if anyone has any advice about my situation, or even a recommendation of a professional who might be able to help advise on the best way of going about things for me in this situation: I have a girlfriend who is a citizen of the United States. Personally, I am not a Swedish citizen, but resident. I am studying at the university here and working as well. Since a distance relationship is very difficult, my girlfriend decided to come to Sweden next year and start her university studies here. But, we got one big barrier about the visa. The thing is that since my girlfriend is the citizen of USA, she has to do her application for the Swedish university until 15th of January 2013 and she has to send her high school diploma with the rest of the documents for application. But, my girlfriend is finishing her high school in USA in June of 2013, so it is practically impossible for her to get high school diploma before 15th of January. She is one of the best students at the high school and her grades already satisfies all of the Swedish universities’ requirements, but since she will get her final high school diploma in the summer of 2013 she has to skip one whole year because of that. That’s very sad and unfortunate, because people who are Swedish or EU citizens are able to send their applications until the end of June. Another question is; Okay, she will skip one year, but then there is another issue. US citizens can only stay in Europe for 3 months per year as I know. So, if she comes here then she has to go back to US after 3 months and it will be even more difficult. So, my question is whether I can or not to do with her Sambo or something like that despite of the fact that I am not a Swedish citizen but a resident. So that she will be able to come with me after her graduation from high school and finally enjoy being together. Thank you! |

Yes, but even if I marry her will she be able to get visa to come and stay here? I wonder that because I am just a resident here in Sweden, not a citizen.

Well, I just turned to 20 and she is 18. We know each other since childhood and we have been together for 5 years. Because of her family conditions she had to leave to USA last year and I came to Sweden and continued my studies. This distance relationship is killing us. And, since I cannot go to USA because of financial position and also I cannot quit my studies here, we decided her to come to Sweden since she is just finishing high school and it’s more convenient because she can start her studies here and she won’t lose her study years as well. But, as I mentioned above, I am confused about these visa staff, because I do not know how it will be. Even if we marry, will she get visa for living in Sweden (until she gets her study visa in Sweden) despite of the fact that I am not a Swedish citizen but a resident? I worry about that because as I mentioned, she has to skip one year since the deadline of the application for US citizens is January 15th, so she won't be able come here with the student visa this summer. So we have to wait one and a half more years :x It’s going to be hell :x

Okay I will try. I may not be 100 % correct. Unless you have a PUT you cannot get her a sambo visa. Unless she is your spouse or common law wife she is not a family member thus must apply on her own. What type of a visa are you holding? Where are you from? It appears that the only option is her student visa in future.

Perhaps she could get an official copy of her high school transcript along with an official letter from her high school that she already has all of the credits necessary to graduate in June 2013 and there is no doubt that she will graduate then.
I don't know if this will work, but maybe worth a try? |

I have already talked about that to the study counselor at the university here, but she sad strictly big NO. She said that my girlfriend has to send the final diploma before 15th of January, otherwise she has to wait for the next year.
