Well, it looks like time to move to London.
We (2 of us)don't intend on taking much but would like to consider options of 1) Half a container or combined with someone else to fill a container 2) Dont take furniture and just put everything in boxes and ship mainly clothes and shoes, small items 3) Would it be feasible to ship or move our big flat screen TV (few years old) or would it be cheaper and more convenient to buy once in London? Can anyone please suggest a cost effective way and names of companies, movers who can move our stuff across to London ? Any tips on moving would be appreciated since I know there are quite a few Brits here on TL. Thanks!! |

Hej!
I Have just moved 12 square meters (like a full very big transit van) of boxes From Liverpool to Skäne. The price was about £1300 on a part load, that mean a truck is shared with other people stuffs, so you need to wait a couple of weeks before delivery. Collection and delivery at my addresses. There is no problem for your tv, better if you still have the box, if not they can provide you boxes and protection materials. I did not take the insurance but they can insured your stuff. Here the company: http://www.movecorp.co.uk/ I am happy of the price I had with them, service was good. It was the best quotation I had, much cheaper then other companies. I managed to read some feedback, all were good. Regards. |

After a recommendation in the past on here I too have contacted MoveCorp and they seem to offer a pretty good rate.
I have palmed off some stuff on friends and relatives. Some other things I am and have been shifting across bit by bit on my visits leading up to the final one way ticket at the end of September. My girlfriend has already got lots of stuff in Sweden so I am lucky. I do not have furniture to worry about, I am just looking at a few electronic items and personal effects. The quote I received was reasonable. It is a comfort to read some positive experiences from people. |

Thank you so much guys and gals.
I will contact Movecorp. About the Big screen flat TV, it is 42 inches and 5 yrs old. We dont have the original box so i am a bit worried as to how to pack it and will it be worth while shipping this big TV or sell it for a song here in sweden and buy another TV in the UK? What do you all think? To answer the question, I dont know where we will be living just yet. I plan on going to London and getting some letting agents on right move dot com show me some apts. My fiance will be working near Tottenham Court station and so we are looking at apts or town houses row houses somewhere 20 mins ride away. We are willing to pay 1500 pounds per month max so we hope to get a decent place in a safe neighborhood. Just for the 2 of us, no kids. What do you know about Leyton as a place to live or any suggestions? Thanks for your help! |

I don't know much about Leyton in particular, other than that I would not personally live there. |

Movecorps are good. Their insurance only offers a few pounds per box/item, so if the telly goes bust you won't get much back. On the other hand tellys are relatively cheap in UK, so if not sure sell it here, or move it but don't stress about it making the journey. Ours was fine and we packed it in a padded wooden box we made for the journey. They also delivered someone else's TV that they had packed in bubble wrap. That seemed fine too. It took them 4 weeks to come back and get the other TV. 4 weeks to wonder whether we should have mentioned it to them as it semed bigger and better than ours. Honesty is the best policy though.
Our only problem was that we paid in 3 installments and our bank decided the last one didn't look 'kosher' so our furniture was held hostage in Lichfield [where the depot is] until the bank was persuaded to pay up. |
