I am getting everything ready to apply for a UK first child passport for my baby that has just been born in Sweden, and I noticed it says "All foreign legal documents submitted with a passport application should be translated into English."
http://ukingermany.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-...to-apply/sweden A bit further up it says you need to submit a moderskapsintyg and Familje Personbevis, and it says the extracts are usually available in English. We got the moderskapsintyg from the hospital, but it is in Swedish. I contacted Försäkringskassan and the person I spoke to said that it is not available in English, so I assume the comment on the passport website just refers to the Personbevis? Does anyone know if this therefore has to be translated into English before being sent? I guess it does, but wanted to see if anyone else has done it before. And if that is the case, does anyone know any certified translators in the stockholm area? I contacted the listed ones on the passport website, and only one has responded and its seems quite expensive for a small generic form. 656kr +vat for half a page of A4. I guess if we have to pay it we will, but this babys passport is turning out to be very expensive! Thanks |

I would call the UK embassy to verify. I am from Canada, not the UK obviously and when our daughter was born on the Canadian site it said we needed to translate everything that is not in English but when I talked to the embassy in Sweden the guy said the personbevis in english was enough and that he could verify everything else. We were freaking out to about paying to get everything notarized and translated, better to call and check first.

Thanks, I'll give them a call in the morning (phone hours from 9-11am ... )
And if I do need it translated, I guess I'll look through the link you suggested ChocOwl. Thanks to you both |

I contacted the embassy, but they didn't know if I needed it in English or not... They said they don't need the documents in English for things like registering her birth, but she didn't know about the passport office as they have nothing to do with passports any more (it is all handled in Germany)
All she could do is give me a UK number which costs £0.72 a minute to call from the UK, but wasn't sure how much is would be from a mobile phone (all I have!) in Sweden... Might be cheaper just getting it translated! Is there anyone here who has applied from Sweden for a First UK passport and knows what to do? |
