From what I can see a UK student cannot apply to the Swedish government for a student loan (for a masters degree), but the student loans website in England has no information at all about getting loans to study at an overseas university. The on;y info it lists is about EU Erasmus schemes, which isn't relelvant to me.
Has anybody from the UK experienced this problem? How did you manage to find funding in the end? I have enough money to finance my first year at university, but will probably need a loan for the second year as I am expecting jobs hard to come by from what I have read. HEJA SVERIGE! |

You cannot get Swedish student loans unless you have been resident for 2 years
Can you get a loan from the UK or return there to work in the summer? |

I can definintely get a bank loan, but would rather stay in Sweden over the Summer than go back to the UK to work. Hopefully I can still get the same loan I would get from the UK if I was attending a home university, but I'm not sure.

Seeing as you last posted over a year ago, would you mind telling me how you've got on with financing your MA in Sweden? I'm just waiting to hear if I've been accepted into one of my two choices, and trying to work out how to finance the move, should I get in. I'm currently working full-time in the UK, and intend to do so until the end of July/August. Seeing as I'd be within easy reach of Stansted, I'm wondering if it would be feasible to return to the UK during the holidays and pick up a few shifts to top up my bank balance. Accommodation-wise, I'll be living with my Swede who'll hopefully find work pretty quickly.
Thanks in advance |
